danasgoodstuff Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 So, has anyone here got some version of this and what do you think? Quote
jazzbo Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 I have the six cd version and it's a wonderful set. Sound is excellent, choice of tracks sensible and satisfying. Quote
Hot Ptah Posted November 10, 2015 Report Posted November 10, 2015 I got the 18 disc set and am glad I did. Quote
felser Posted November 11, 2015 Author Report Posted November 11, 2015 2CD version $15, 6CD version $100, 18CD version $600. My head and wallet are going to win out over my heart and collector tendencies. Quote
mjzee Posted November 11, 2015 Report Posted November 11, 2015 I heard some of the 2CD version in a record store. Truly didn't impress me; sounded like bottom of the barrel stuff. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 11, 2015 Report Posted November 11, 2015 Looking over the track listing for the 18 set it seems a historical artifact, I think it's fantastic this has been released. Don't know what to say mjzee, I have the 6 cd set and there's no barrell scrapings there imo. You can see the development of song and sound, and Dylan's artistry was at a peak. . . I'm very happy with the 6 cd; I'm sure the 2 cd set is great, but I wanted more and am very satisfied. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 1, 2016 Report Posted January 1, 2016 I'm on my third spin through this 6 cd box set and find it fascinating. I am sure the large set is even more fascinating, and owners of that also received MP3s of '65 live shows, something that probably would have set me over the edge to buying the big set if I had known that was part of the plan. This is actually taking me back three decades to when I was drumming in a few bands and rehearsing in my then garage apartment, learning material and arrangements and having some real intense times. No, the music was not "cutting edge" as this material is, but there was a comparable spirit and this set reinvokes some of that within me. Anyway, I'm so glad to have this version and can only imagine the fun that some owners of the big set are having! Quote
