My son hipped me to this a few weeks ago, I guess we're both years behind the times, but, yeah..."high-functioning sociopath" (or so he says), no matter my kind of guy. Very watchable in terms of both content and time, Season 4 in the works, correct?

Interesting that both here and on Elementary (which I'm afraid slipped a fair bit this last season), Holmes  is a more than a bit of a prick, but always in the service of getting it right...or maybe it's just being right. Either way, I like it. So few of the everyday assholes I run across these days have that dedication to that motivation.

And Holmes/Watson as Buddy Movie...with these two, when they do that, it works. Who knew?

And hey - best Moriarty ever. A true scary sociopath.

Fan!

I love Basil Rathbone and also Jeremy Brett as Holmes. But this series is my favorite. Best instalment yet: 'A scandal in Belgravia'. But Moriarty is to me a whining teenager. Looking forward to the comming Chistmas special.

Of all people, my then fifteeen year old daughter hipped me to this. I watched the first two seasons and enjoyed them much. You reminded me that I need to check out the third season.

I've enjoyed the Cumberbatch/Freeman "Sherlock" too.  Good stuff! :tup

Anyone else seen the new Sherlock Holmes movie featuring Ian McKellan? From my vantage point, it was pretty good but not great.

assuming that's what this thread is about .... enjoyed the first two (mini-)seasons a lot - hoping for more to come!

A terrific up-to-date interpretation of Sherlock.  Perfect for these times!  Looking forward to the up-coming series, having seen them all so far.  And probably most other interpretations, even those slightly off the canon: Michael Caine, Gene Wilder, Nicol Williamson and many others.  Even though I originally dreaded its arrival, the CBS "Elementary" with Jonny Lee Miller (and a female Watson, Lucy Liu!) has proven to be excellent!

(And let's not forget that "House" (read Homes/Holmes) was a medical version with Englishman-playing-American-doctor -- Hugh Laurie -- was Sherlock with a drug problem in a hospital instead of Baker Street.)

It's a wonderful source of popular drama, is A.C. Doyle's if not quite Shakespeare.

I've see the current McKellan "Mr. Holmes" movie, and liked it a lot, maybe seven-and-a-half stars.  Interesting idea that almost makes it, and McKellan is fine, as is the always effective and lovely under-recognized actor Laura Linney.

There have been three seasons produced and shown...and "mini seasons" is only in comparison to most others.  (Perhaps you've only seen 6 show, so you have lots to look forward to.)

BBC sets out to do a 3-show season, and does it perfectly with cinema-quality production in every way.  I think that's far superior to 22 episodes of studio-bound repetitious seasons of most shows...

So far, 9 excellent additions to the Holmes oeuvre, 3 more this year.  Wonderful, and enough to savour...

Correct!

There's been a third season of three episodes (getting to the third one tonight, the first two have so far proven delightful)...don't know if you can get it where you live, but I'd not see why not?

Dude, my kids have hipped me to enough good/great things over the years that I've learned to take notes for future reference. Don't dare take them up on it in real time, becuase it's not ALL good/great, if you know what I mean....:)

Yep, seen 6 so far - hopefully they'll show the missing 3 on telly here, too!

(Don't feel like paying extra or netflxing or whatever, can hardly keep up with the regular/basic stuff we pay for already.)

I thought that I'd be put off by seeing Holmes and Watson in a truly contemporary setting, but I've enjoyed this series - some of the best television these days.

And interesting that at the end of the last episode Holmes seems to have become nearly as psychotic as Moriarty. I'm waiting to see where that goes.

Yes! I like (liked?) the series a lot. Surprisingly, since I'm generally more inclined to the "traditional" approach...I could quibble over a few things, but overall very positive.

Don't watch TV, but rented the first three seasons from Netflix. Will there ever be a fourth? (Or maybe there was, but Netflix never got it? Been a couple of years.)

I thought the series has been very well handled, overall.  The updating of the characters to fit modern times and technology seems believable and natural.  There is a dose of humor to all the shows, but it never overwhelms the stories.  The twists to the original stories that the writers and producers have made have generally been admirable, with the possible exception of their take on "The Hound of The Baskervilles" which seemed a little forced to me, as though they really had to reach to come up with a modern day spin on that tale.  The acting has been excellent as well.  I checked out the 3 seasons on DVD from the library and some of the commentary tracks were worth listening to.

This series was certainly a welcome relief after the horrible Robert Downey Jr. Holmes movies.  I checked out one of those from the library, but I couldn't even make it throught he first 5 minutes, it looked so awful.
