Hardbopjazz Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 If you were doing an album, who would you want playing behind you? I play Piano, so I would choose as my backup Drums, I have to say Art Blakey. Trumpet, a toss up between Brownie or Morgan. Bass, Paul Chambers Tenor, Mobley. Quote
Pete C Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 I used to sing, and I couldn't imagine a better accompanist than Kenny Barron. I'd add Cecil McBee & Lewis Nash. And Gary Bartz as guest soloist. Quote
brownie Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 I'ld hate being embarassed in front of great players. Even not so good players Quote
Sundog Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 I play guitar so.... Ballads & Standards Bass: Ray Brown Drums: Mickey Roker Piano: Monty Alexander Blues & Groove Bass: Ray Brown Drums: Donald Bailey Piano: Red Garland Horn Section Saxophone: Benny Golson Trumpet: Lee Morgan Also, I'd have Gerry Mulligan and Milt Jackson come in and guest on a song or two. Maybe Gerry could help with some of the arrangements! B) Quote
tonym Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Since most of the Aebersold rhythm sections get the better of me when I practice then this is really redundant but, in some sort of Fantasy Island situation I would go for either Bill Evans or John Taylor on piano, Marc Johnson or Palle Danielsson on bass and on drums, Jon Christenson or Joey Baron. Any permutation of these would be my ideal section. If I had a guitarist present then Colin Oxley would be great. Then they could get together and fire the tenor sax player.... Quote
jazzbo Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 I'd want Helen Merrill to be my producer, and we'd sit down and work out the musicians together. I'd lobby strongly for Jim Sangry and Andrew Griffith and Shawn Dudley. Quote
