JSngry Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 My daughter came home from the mall this afternoon with a button that says "I Loves Me Some Waffles". The phrase sounded "familiar" so I asked her where it was from. Well, she didn't know, and neither did my son nor his girlfriend. A Google search reveals that this phrase is maybe beginning to circulate amongst "the kids", but nobody seems to know its origin. Another Pop Culture Mini-Craze Phrase ala "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" seems to be brewing. Anybody who can provide a source for the origin of this phrase shall be my hero! Quote
Joe Christmas Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 It's something I said at the Blue Note board in early 2001 referring to a just-released reissue. I'm as surprised as you that "Waffles" has taken off like it has. Quote
JSngry Posted February 22, 2004 Author Report Posted February 22, 2004 Once again my life has been touched by greatness!!! Quote

JSngry Posted February 22, 2004 Author Report Posted February 22, 2004 Well, if my daughter was anywhere near old enough to vote, I'd say your concern was justified... Quote
couw Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 it's not from some waffle house commercial is it? Quote

couw Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 I only found some suicidal kids using it as a tag line on some weird chat board... Quote
JSngry Posted February 22, 2004 Author Report Posted February 22, 2004 Yeah, I found those too, but they're not suicidal, they're normal, as frightening as that seems... Quote
couw Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 normal people hang around sites named suicidegirls.com nowadays? I must be getting old... Quote
JSngry Posted February 22, 2004 Author Report Posted February 22, 2004 You are, and so am I. That's just how it goes... Quote
Free For All Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 I was thinking it sounds like a Dave Letterman-ism. Quote

JSngry Posted February 23, 2004 Author Report Posted February 23, 2004 Can anybody verify the Lettermanosity? Quote

JSngry Posted February 23, 2004 Author Report Posted February 23, 2004 Dave's for us old folks. She could verify if it was from some anime thing, but that's about it. Quote

kulu se mama Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 doesn't the donkey (eddie murphy) say this line in shrek? Quote

Yeah, kids keep you up to date whether you want to be or not, at least to a degree you'd probably not be otherwise. Like so many things, it's a blessing and a curse. Mostly both. I'd have missed out on the whole "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" thing if not for my kids, and THAT was some funny shit! Quote
couw Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 (edited) I am baffled that your kids (well your daughter) are somehow AHEAD of the internet by more than one day. I am young/old enough to think/believe that *anything* hits the net within 24 hours. Guess not. Somehow your daughter's negligence in this matter consoles me... Edited February 23, 2004 by couw Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 I can "hear" that damn phrase in my head. It must be used in a radio "bump" or something. I can hear the gravely voice! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 Maybe it was Pigmeat Markham. Remember the Alamo! Quote
JSngry Posted February 24, 2004 Author Report Posted February 24, 2004 Everything good can be traced to Pigmeat Markham if you try hard enough! Quote
