ghost of miles Posted July 20, 2015 Report Posted July 20, 2015 (edited) We had originally scheduled a show devoted to live recordings from Hermosa Beach's Lighthouse Cafe made after the breakup of Howard Rumsey's seminal west-coast jazz group the Lighthouse All-Stars this week on Night Lights. Rumsey passed away last Wednesday at the age of 97, so instead we'll be re-airing a previous Night Lights program that focused on him and the 1950s editions of the Lighthouse All-Stars: The Lighthouse All-Stars Edited June 23, 2017 by ghost of miles Quote

sidewinder Posted July 20, 2015 Report Posted July 20, 2015 Sorry to hear this - RIP. Got the chance to meet him years ago and ask him about the Lee Morgan Lighthouse gig, very approachable guy. Quote

RIP. http://www.jazzwax.com/2015/07/howard-rumsey-1917-2015.html This interview appeared recently on Mosaic's Sunday Gazette. I don't know how I missed it when mjzee posted it, but I did. I thought it was really an interesting interview, and that Rumsey was amazingly sharp for a guy at 90. Fun read, so thanks--very tardily--to mjzee for posting it! gregmo Quote
