mikeweil Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Welcome to the board, Laurie Antonioli! Fritz Pauer was great! I cherish the two of his trio LPs that I have. Quote
BeBop Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 This is my first post. Richie is AMAZING - I'm the only jazz singer that's ever recorded with him and we have a second record coming out in 4 weeks - the name of it is "Varuna." There are 3 brand new Beirach compositions (w/my lyrics) and you'll find 2 of his songs (Elm and Nightlake) on our first recording "The Duo Session." (recorded 1993) I had to post because on your list I also recorded with Joe Bonner in the 80's on his "New Beginnings" album! I had the good fortune of sitting in with Joe Henderson when Joanne Brakeen was playing as well! All 3 are incredible musicians and certainly deserve more recognition. Laurie Antonioli I'll add a quick "welcome". I think I saw you/met you with Pony at the Keystone, a few (ahem) years back. I was something of a friend of Pony's during his final Bay Area years. Good old days indeed. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 7, 2015 Author Report Posted August 7, 2015 Lazlo Gardony. I just heard his release "Life In Real Time." Quote
jlhoots Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Joe Albany - maybe he was mentioned before. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted August 10, 2015 Report Posted August 10, 2015 Late to the game on this one, but Jon Mayer has a good number of fine releases on the Reservoir label. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted August 10, 2015 Report Posted August 10, 2015 Going through some old cassettes last night (yup, cassettes!) and found a compilation of Kenny Kersey sessions. I don't have a machine plugged in so I didn't listen, but I recall how much I've enjoyed his stylings over the years... Quote
duaneiac Posted August 13, 2015 Report Posted August 13, 2015 i don't think these two have been mentioned here yet, but they should be so I will do so:Buddy Montgomery and Bobby Troup Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted August 15, 2015 Author Report Posted August 15, 2015 Would Richie Powell be an overlooked pianist? His brother most differently overshadows him. Quote

Hardbopjazz Posted August 31, 2015 Author Report Posted August 31, 2015 A fairly young pianist that I was impressed by, Theo Hill. I saw him live this weekend at the piano bar Mezzrow. Quote
Larry Kart Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) Heard Hilton Ruiz several years ago at Smoke sitting in with trombonist Chris Washburne's Latin Jazz group SYOTOS, and he was on fire. Have several good albums by Ruiz, but they're a little over-produced and not quite at that level. Edited August 31, 2015 by Larry Kart Quote
Steve Reynolds Posted September 3, 2015 Report Posted September 3, 2015 Kris Davis Cooper-Moore Quote
HutchFan Posted September 3, 2015 Report Posted September 3, 2015 Steve - Your mention of Kris Davis made me think of Angelica Sanchez. I've really enjoyed her music, and I don't think she's particularly well-known. Quote
