HolgerFreimutSchrick Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 The French organist and pianist Eddy Louiss has died. I remember his fantastic album with Michel Petrucciani (Conference de presse)http://www.lefigaro.fr/flash-actu/2015/06/30/97001-20150630FILWWW00247-mort-de-l-organiste-de-jazz-eddy-louiss.php Quote
brownie Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 (edited) Very sad news!Love his participation in the Stan Getz quartet of ’Dynasty’ fame and the accompaniament he provided on so many tracks with Claude Nougaro . Edited June 30, 2015 by brownie Nougaro misspelled Quote
Joe Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 Another loss. Sigh.DYNASTY is indeed superb. He also made some excellent recordings with a young Jean-Luc Ponty and the wonderful Daniel Humair. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 Bummer. His recordings at the outset of the 70s are excellent and I should really make an effort to hear more. Quote
LarryCurleyMoe Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 R.I.P. a very fine organist. I enjoy "Eddy Louiss Trio" (Dreyfus label) with Rene Thomas and Kenny Clarke quite a bit. Quote

HutchFan Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 I've also enjoyed this one:Our Kind of Sabi - with John Surman & Daniel Humair Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 I remember picking up Getz's "Dynasty" 2 CD set after reading a good review in the Penguin guide and being very glad I did. RIP Eddy. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 Aside from the fine recordings by Eddy Louis already mentioned, I like this one.Eddy Louiss - Bohemia After Dark - Gitaneswith Jimmy Gourley, Guy Pedersen, Kenny ClarkeR.I P. Quote

Justin V Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 I picked up Sentimental Feeling from a shop in DC last year and really enjoyed it; I need to listen to it more often. I'd like to pick up his trio disc with Rene Thomas and Kenny Clarke; it should be interesting to hear him in a trio context with that caliber of players. Thank you for the music, Mr. Louiss, and rest in peace. Quote
Jim R Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 Hearing this album (later put out on the aforementioned Dreyfus CD) in the 80's was my introduction to both Eddy Louiss and Rene Thomas. Talk about making a great first impression. Still an organ trio classic, imo. Quote
Brad Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 That's a shame, RIP. I have always enjoyed his work. Quote
