A Lark Ascending Posted January 31, 2016 Author Report Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) Nice shot above (except it's no longer above but on the previous page). ********************* First proper walk of 2016...three months earlier than 2015. The Derbyshire Peak District between Ashford in the Water and Monsall Head. Looking into the low-lying sun towards the tree clumps is very eerie. The area is covered in Prehistoric remains - stone circles, barrows etc - and you get a real sense of the past there. Edited January 31, 2016 by A Lark Ascending Quote

I was last there in the 60s when I went through the area and over that viaduct (now a footpath) on a train fro Manchester to Leicester IIRC. Ah, the passage of time! A Lark Ascending Posted February 1, 2016 Author Report Posted February 1, 2016 I'd not been for about 20 years...hadn't walked it for at least 30. I don't think the tunnel was open then but you can now walk or cycle through it. Surprising number of people there for a January day - taking advantage of the gap between Gertrude and Henry. Quote

One of the beauties of digital photography is that you can take several at different settings without it costing you an arm and a leg as it did back in the olden days....sometimes it happens! New England: one of the Earth’s greatest spectacles http://www.theguardian.com/environment/gallery/2016/feb/02/new-england-one-of-the-earths-greatest-spectacles-in-pictures Wrong season, I know. But these shots are beautiful - there's a wonderful sequence at the bottom of the page linked above showing a single tree across the seasons. Very Monet (well, on a longer time scale!)! Quote
