Scott Dolan Posted May 24, 2015 Report Posted May 24, 2015 Just wanted to pass this on from Dennis' Facebook page: "My dear friends and family: I've been home for a day-and-a-half, now; so overjoyed to be back after such a terrible ordeal. But with the love and care of my wife and boys, and the doctors and nurses who monitored all my internal and external workings, I have come this far. I still have a journey ahead of me, and a continued fight, but your collective spirit, love, and affection is the medicine." Quote
felser Posted May 24, 2015 Author Report Posted May 24, 2015 I had a couple email exchanges with him this week when looking to get some CD-R's of his earlier work, and he seems to have a beautiful spirit about him. Jim Sangrey, he passes along greetings to you. I look forward to hearing your playing on his early recordings. Quote

Д.Д. Posted November 20, 2019 Report Posted November 20, 2019 Is Dennis González OK? There have not been any new recordings for quite some time now. Love his music. Have been listening to "Dance Of The Soothsayer’s Tongue (Live At Tonic)" non-stop for the last few days. Quote
felser Posted November 20, 2019 Author Report Posted November 20, 2019 I know he had a lot of medical issues a few years ago. Quote

Guy Berger Posted July 13, 2021 Report Posted July 13, 2021 So after a long time of being aware of this guy, I finally checked him out on NY Midnight Suite (Clean Feed, 2004). Really good, enjoyable music in the post-Ornette vein. I have a few of his other Clean Feeds lined up and am excited to dig in. Quote
mjazzg Posted July 13, 2021 Report Posted July 13, 2021 Go straight for the Silkhearts, uniformly tremendous Quote
AaronG Posted July 15, 2021 Report Posted July 15, 2021 He’s had a couple recent releases on Ayler Records. Quote
Joe Posted July 16, 2021 Report Posted July 16, 2021 From what I can tell, Dennis' health continues to be precarious. Best way to keep up with him is via Facebook. All that being said, best not to sleep on this recent release... although it may not be for everyone... https://ayler-records.bandcamp.com/album/vanishing-light-in-the-tunnel-of-dreams Quote
colinmce Posted June 15, 2023 Report Posted June 15, 2023 Wonderful short documentary featuring DG playing, teaching, talking and painting with a cameo from our own Jim Sangrey: Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 15, 2023 Report Posted June 15, 2023 Nice! Who else is in the band, other than Dennis & Sangrey? Quote
JSngry Posted June 15, 2023 Report Posted June 15, 2023 Rob Blakeskee on trumpet, Alan Green on drums, and I don't recall or recognize the bassist, although the name Lavalle Houser comes to mind as a possibility. Quote
JSngry Posted June 19, 2023 Report Posted June 19, 2023 Definitely Lavalle Houser on bass. I remember now... Met him through Alan, used him for a "free funk" band/gig and then recommended him to Dennis. Great player, super nice guy. Sad to say, I totally lost track of him. Hope he's alive and thriving today! Back then, there were so many different layers/pockets of who was playing what where in Dallas, . So if you got a rec for somebody you were unaware of, you took it. If it worked out, hey, more pieces with which to solve the puzzle! Quote
Joe Posted June 19, 2023 Report Posted June 19, 2023 Write-up of last night's DG tribute show here in Dallas. https://stashdauber.blogspot.com/2023/06/oak-cliff-6182023.html Quote
