BeBop Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 I wish our paths were going to cross. If you could swing by Cedar Rapids before heading east to New York, I'm pretty sure I could get the motel breakfast room for an evening concert. Unplug the Mr. Coffee and plug in the B3. Put some Hy-Vee pretzels in the bins usually filled with Frosted Flakes. I could probably get an announcement on the Kirkwood Community College jazz radio station KCCK; you're on their 2015 playlist five times. Still not sold on the idea? How 'bout this: Quilting Show this weekend! Seriously, enjoy the tour! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 Amen - I feel like organissimo (the band) and I are never in the same place! Quote
BeBop Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 I've managed to catch them twice. Keep trying! Quote
felser Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 I saw them several years ago at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, wonderful experience! Unfortunately, we will be away on May 22, but I recommend their sets to anyone close to Philly. Chris' Jazz Cafe is a wonderful venue. Nice size, congenial atmosphere, very reasonable prices, and good food from what I remember (saw Larry McKenna there several years ago). Quote
Stefan Wood Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 May 21!!! Smithsonian!!!!!! I'm there!!!!!!!!! Quote
BeBop Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 May 21!!! Smithsonian!!!!!! I'm there!!!!!!!!! Return engagement: Quote
alankin Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 I'll see if I can make the 5/22 Philly date, have to check my calendar. Quote
relyles Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 If I did not have a conflict I would catch the band in Marlboro. I have been to the Falcon recently and it is a nice venue. Hope you guys get a good turnout. When I heard the Aruan Ortiz trio there about fifteen people were in the audience. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted May 14, 2015 Author Report Posted May 14, 2015 May 21!!! Smithsonian!!!!!! I'm there!!!!!!!!! Return engagement: Actually it's the first engagement. The original date was set for Oct 2013 and then the sequester happened and government shutdown. This was our first opportunity to reschedule. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 I'll be there in DC. My first Big O show, finally!! Quote
CJ Shearn Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 (edited) Marlboro is only a half hour from me. There is no wheelchair accessible transportation to get there at that hour Edited May 16, 2015 by CJ Shearn Quote
bertrand Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 I will be at the DC show of course, and I also plan to hit the two Harrisburg shows since it's only 2 hours away from DC. How do you get tickets for the second place? I can't seem to find a link or anything. I also need to call them about their menu. Note: Smithsonian is not an encore performance, alas, it is a rescheduling of a show that had to be postponed due to 'national events' (think Green Eggs and ham for 24 hours). Bertrand. Quote
bertrand Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 Dang, I thought the two Harrisburg shows were the same day. Now I guess I have to pick one Bertrand. Quote
Patrick Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 I will be at the Smithsonian show as well, ...with friends! For the historians, just how long ago was the Organissimo hit at Twins in DC?? I still recall "Peaches en Regalia" then. Quote
cliffpeterson Posted May 19, 2015 Report Posted May 19, 2015 I intend to be at the Falcon in Marlboro unless life intervenes Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted May 20, 2015 Author Report Posted May 20, 2015 I will be at the Smithsonian show as well, ...with friends! For the historians, just how long ago was the Organissimo hit at Twins in DC?? I still recall "Peaches en Regalia" then. I think that was 2006. Long time ago. We no longer have Peaches in the repertoire, since we've been through two guitarists since then. We'll get it back in the setlist one of these days. It will be great to see you again! Quote
mr jazz Posted May 20, 2015 Report Posted May 20, 2015 The Twins show was great and a lot of back and forth between the audience and the band. Unfortunately, I will be out of town for tomorrow's DC show. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Loved the concert last night! - my first Big O show, finally! I'd met Jim before at one of Janiva's gigs back in Kansas City (just before I moved to DC), but it was great to finally meet Randy after all these years, and Larry too!! Best of luck with the rest of the tour! Quote
Patrick Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Damn tasty, as anticipated. Plenty of head bobbing fun. Larry is a great addition. Very happy that "Good Juice" and "Daddy James" were on the set list. And I got to meet the man, the brand, the fashion concept that is Rooster Ties! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted May 22, 2015 Author Report Posted May 22, 2015 Great to see both of you cats! Tonight we're in Philly! Quote
cliffpeterson Posted May 23, 2015 Report Posted May 23, 2015 I attended the Wednesday night concert at The Falcon in Marlboro, NY with a non-jazz familiar, blues loving, friend. Friend dug the entire group and especially the guitarist. I enjoyed all three members of the band. About 1 3/4 hour show non-stop. Wonderful music. Funny, before the show the club owner was not sure what to expect. After one tune he was extolling the musicianship!!!!!! Jim-what was the one-hit pop wonder you played?- Oooh Baby? Quote
bertrand Posted May 23, 2015 Report Posted May 23, 2015 The Smithsonian show was a blast! It was great to finally meet and hear Larry. See you guys in Harrisburg in a bit. Bertrand. Quote
