jazzbo Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 I understand too S. What puzzled me was leading off with the second disc sounding not good. . . I have had this material in boot form and I was really impressed with the sound of it on this set, this is the disc I've listened to most since getting the set, love the music and very happy with the sound. Mono, but mono doesn't bother me; you can hear everyone well.Ready for Vol. 5! Quote
l p Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 Ready for Vol. 5!is this a brainwashing method? Quote
jazzbo Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 No, just my eagerness for the next in this series. Quote
l p Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 No, just my eagerness for the next in this series.that's what i thought the first couple of times that you said it. but after that, for some reason, it made me think of scientologists and how they try to push their ideas onto people. Quote

jazzbo Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Not sure I can see what end that would have if it were my intention. It's not. I'm just loving this series, and don't know what more to say about this installment. . . I've learned to hate collecting bootlegs and want more of this great music as official releases. I know they could never crank them out fast enough for me, but I'm hoping for more. We'll probably see another next year. Edited July 30, 2015 by jazzbo Quote
king ubu Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 I'm with Lon there ... and I'm having a bit of hard time reading these complaints about sound and an even harder time reading those ridiculous over-the-top accusations. But maybe that's just me.Nothing to see, walk on. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 Plenty of Miles in good sound.Move on folks, nothing for you to see here. Quote
medjuck Posted July 31, 2015 Report Posted July 31, 2015 I just wish there were some recordings of the gigs with JJ Johnson or Buddy Montgomery-- no matter what the sound quality. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted July 31, 2015 Report Posted July 31, 2015 Next up in vol.5 is the "Miles plays the banjo" concert... Quote
GA Russell Posted July 31, 2015 Report Posted July 31, 2015 (edited) Amazon.de yesterday told me not to expect it before August 6. We'll see.My shipping notice also says to expect arrival Aug. 6. As you said, we'll see.Arrived today. Took a week. Pretty fast IMO.Mine arrived yesterday. I was wondering if someone in the food chain didn't like me! Edited August 1, 2015 by GA Russell Quote
JSngry Posted July 31, 2015 Report Posted July 31, 2015 Yeah, Amzon Germany got it here this past Tuesday, not bad.But - shipped by "Royal Mail"...does Germany still Royal? Or does Germazon just collect the orders? Quote
king ubu Posted July 31, 2015 Report Posted July 31, 2015 They ship from any warehouse, no matter whether you order from the French, Italian, Spanish, German or UK site. And the French of course invented the guillotine a while ago ... but I guess today others should get acquainted with it as well, besides royals. Quote
Guy Berger Posted July 31, 2015 Report Posted July 31, 2015 Plenty of Miles in good sound.Move on folks, nothing for you to see here.I'd say that the 1966 and 1967 Newport concerts*** have better MUSIC than "plenty of Miles in good sound", so there's in fact much to see here. Quote

Clunky Posted August 11, 2015 Report Posted August 11, 2015 Had this set a few days and I have so say I love it. No complaints at all. A great package , well thought through. Roll on Vol 5, I'm with Lon on that too. Quote
LouisvillePrez Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 I finally got around to purchasing this, which was inevitable, and I have spent most of my time listening to disc 2, the Second Great Quintet material. I really do enjoy it, and as I have been thinking where I would rank this relative to Miles in Berlin, Complete Plugged Nickel, and Bootleg Series, Vol. 1, I wonder if others have thoughts on how this ranks. Plugged Nickel is still the champ for me. The number 2 spot, however, is open, with Berlin being #4. Quote
mjzee Posted June 1, 2018 Report Posted June 1, 2018 Late to the party, but I finally gave a listen to this. Great set, loved the 1973 material. But... I was very interested in the 1975 track, since I was at that show, and was surprised by the bad bootleg sound quality. I know there was a tape circulating on ROIO. Has anyone heard that - is the sound quality any better? Quote
jazzbo Posted June 2, 2018 Report Posted June 2, 2018 LP: I rank that second disc very high, it's really an amazing performance. MJ: I've heard several versions of the '75 from collector's circles. . . none sound better than the Sony version in this set. Quote
Guy Berger Posted February 23, 2020 Report Posted February 23, 2020 (edited) I’m really enjoying the November 1971 Swiss gig on this box. The absence of Jack DeJohnette is felt in a big way but Ndugu plays “good enough” and the rest of the ensemble is awesome Edited February 23, 2020 by Guy Berger Quote
