Late Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 I only know Mover through two of his records for Xanadu — In The True Tradition and Things Unseen, both highly recommended. An "inside/outside" player, the guy's resume is impressive, but he doesn't seem to get talked about much, or maybe I've just been asleep on the news. Fans? What other recommendations? Joe Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 (edited) His Choice date with Tom Harrell is quite nice as well. Very Konitz-like on that recording... and didn't he make a two-alto record with Konitz as well? Edited April 27, 2015 by Joe Quote

Niko Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 Noal Cohen also has a (better) discography of Mover: http://www.attictoys.com/BobMover/Bob_Mover_discography.php Quote

Lee Konitz's Affinity: Lee Konitz: alto saxophone Bob Mover: alto saxophone Ben Aronov: piano Michael Moore: bass Jimmy Madison: drums rec. 1977 Two tracks from the Choice record are on YouTube. Both excellent. Edited December 27, 2017 by Late (replaced image) Quote
fasstrack Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 Glad to see this thread. He's an old and dear friend, living in NY, and still playing very well at 63. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 I have these CDs by Bob Mover. They are all very good in my opinion. Bob Mover - You Go To My Head - Jazz City Bob Mover - Television - DSM bob Mover - It Amazes Me - Zoho Quote
JSngry Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 He was on some of those later 70s Vanguard albums, wasn't he? Albeit not to good advantage, iirc, some "pop"-ish things like The Players or some such. Quote
marcello Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 He's in NYC playing and recording. I always like him as a player and a person. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted December 27, 2017 Report Posted December 27, 2017 Not sure why, but Bob Mover as a New York musician does not get many opportunities to record. He seems a bit off the radar compared to many others , some of whom are less interesting performers. Quote
sgcim Posted January 2, 2018 Report Posted January 2, 2018 He sings a lot on the It Amazes Me album, but he plays his ass off as usual. Quote
