A Lark Ascending Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) Bass player and songwriter with Free - one of my favourite of the more blues based English rock bands of the early 70s. They stood apart buecause of the song-writing skill that took them beyond the standard blues cliches and cock rock of their peers (though they did that too!). http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/mar/18/andy-fraser R.I.P. mjazzg Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 That's a shame. Too young. I'll admit that as a teenager Free meant Kossoff and Rodgers far more than Kirke and Fraser but at least I now know who wrote some of those great tunes Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted April 2, 2015 Author Report Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) Have a listen to some of those tracks, just listening to the bass. Lovely lines. Edited April 2, 2015 by A Lark Ascending Quote
jazzbo Posted April 2, 2015 Report Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) He was a very unique rock bassist. Quite a character. RIP. Kirke is a very solid drummer as well, each of those four were so well-suited for each other and the music. Those slow grooves. . . Fraser and Kirke were uncommonly good at creating those. And Fraser was a very melodic and precise player. Edited April 2, 2015 by jazzbo Quote
