mjzee Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Universal seems to have an interesting approach to their May 20 release: focusing on particular artists and reissuing titles from across their labels. So there's Basie from Pablo and Verve, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis from Solid State and Horizon, Gil Evans from Verve, Impulse and Antilles, etc. Quote
David Ayers Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Cool. Can you advise us where to access the list? Quote
mjzee Posted March 19, 2015 Author Report Posted March 19, 2015 It begins here, and goes onto subsequent pages. CDJapan is pretty easy to navigate, and I do the same routine each time: 1) Go to www.cdjapan.co.jp 2) In the left-hand column, choose "Music" 3) On the next page, in the left-hand column, choose "Jazz / Fusion" 4) On the next page, scroll down about halfway down the page, to the section "Top Future Releases." Click on "See more" 5) At the top of the next page, under "Search Tools", find the "Sort by" box and choose "Latest First" Oh, and there are two Buddy Rich titles, for all you Ethan Iverson fans. By coincidence I was playing the normal 1997 / Capitol Pacific Jazz cd of Buddy Rich "Mercy, Mercy" and it is such a thin sounding transfer. I wonder if the one to be issued in May in Japan will be a better transfer http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UCCU-90138. Edited March 19, 2015 by Alexandros Quote
king ubu Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 Not sure if this is the right thread, but "Mingus Three", the 1957 trio album with Hampton Hawes and Dannie Richmond nowadays belongs to Universal, I assume (Jubilee > Blue Note > EMI > Universal, whatever, why don't the majors just merge into one and then find new majors on Pluto to gulp and grow even fatter? but free markets is good, fersure) ... so, cdjapan just sends me one of their hourly updates, and it says Mingus Three + 8, and I wonder what that means ... would of course be amazing if those were alternates, outtakes, whatever, but I guess the explanation is of some other nature?link: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/OTCD-4829?utm_source=MAIL&utm_medium=text-genre&utm_campaign=Jazz-20150730-genre-OTCD-4829 Quote
jazzbo Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Doesn't appear to be a Universal release, but a "gray area" release from "Poll Winner Records," probably has another lp tacked on (John Dennis maybe, Hazel Scott, something like that?)CDjapan says it's not a Japanese release so I looked around and found this: http://www.happinetonline.com/NASApp/mnas/MxMProduct?Action=prd_detail&KIND=0&SHOP_ID=1&PRODUCT_ID=4526180356196 It might be the a repress of this "Poll Winners" which is also "+8" , , , including John Mehegan tracks from Savoy and Teddy Charles tracks from Atlantic. http://www.amazon.com/Mingus-Three-MINGUS-CHARLES/dp/B004C9PA1Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1438294367&sr=1-1&keywords=Charles+Mingus+3 Edited July 30, 2015 by jazzbo Quote
