EKE BBB
A favorite album of Sheila Jordan is 'The Crossing' that was recorded for Blackhawk (with Tom Harrell, Kenny Barron, Harvie Swartz and Ben Riley). Not sure it's been reissued on CD. Her rendition of 'It Never Entered My Mind' is magnificient. Current ebay auction for "The crossing" CD. Still at a good price. http://cgi.es.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...ssPageName=WD4V Get it while you can!
JamesJazz
Sheila was in Detroit earlier this year as part of the 70th anniversary celebration of Baker's Keyboard Lounge. She sounded wonderful, and many of her friends from 'back in the day' came by; Skeeter Mitchell (from her first vocal trio) sat in on a couple of numbers. There is an article about the great Ms Jordan on our website: www.detroitmusichistory.com
ghost of miles
Good to see you around, Jim! I'm taping a program of jazz coffee songs tomorrow morning and will be including Barry Harris' "Morning Coffee" (trio version).

slide_advantage_redoux
I love Sheila Jordan on Roswell Rudd's 'Flexible Flyer'. Go out and het it today! You can get it on CD from Dusty Groove for $5.99 here What a fantastic recording. Agreed. That recording is criminally unappreciated. Sheila sings on an otherwise over-covered song "What are you doing the rest of your life?"

Guest
I really like Steve Swallow's "Home" ECM-1-1160 1980 You can't exactly say that the album is a showcase for Sheila Jordan. But, when she does sing, it's an integral part of the music and I can't imagine anyone else in her place. Maybe also because it's the first album on which I heard her? The rest of the line up: Steve Kuhn, Liebman, Lyle Mays, Bob Moses
jazzscot
Did Shelia record with Steve Kuhn on a ECM CD? In the back of my mind I have this memory of a recording in the early 80's around the time I attended a concert in LONDON at the "ROUNDHOUSE" theatre where she was part of a group that had Steve Kuhn - Piano, Bob Moses - Drums and I can't remember who was the bass player? sidewinder
Recently picked up a copy of the 'Last Years Waltz' LP recorded with Kuhn. Must give it a spin later today. Big kudos to Sheila for being such a great touring ambassador for jazz. I caught her group with Harvie Swartz a couple of times in Canada in the 90s and she's been making regular appearances in the UK over recent years too. Always worth checking out. Mark Stryker
Speaking of Sheila, I've got a major profile running of her in Sunday's Detroit Free Press. I'll post a link in the Jazz in Print forum when it's available. Stand by.
