clifford_thornton Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 Those early-ish Gunter Hampel records noted above are indeed excellent. The one on Wergo is a corker too. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 Love the Wergo one...actually my favorite of the early titles. Quote
colinmce Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 I'd love to hear Heartplants. Fat chance! Quote
romualdo Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 When this topic came up i immediately thought of Ornette Coleman & particularly the track "Ramblin" Maybe we could squeeze Horace Tapscott in here also Arcana - Derek Bailey/Tony Williams/Bill Laswell !!! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 I'd love to hear Heartplants. Fat chance! Bunch of tracks from the record on YouTube. It was on CD some years ago too, if memory serves. Good record, although I think it is eclipsed by some of his subsequent work. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 I was listening to some of the Frank Lowe by pure coincedence! My friend who played with Luther Thomas on quite a few occasions, sent me a link to some of Luther's stuff on YT and that record by Frank Lowe popped up after! Quote
Head Man Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Perhaps we could start a new thread..."Music That Always Sends Me To Sleep". Here's my contribution..... "Naima" from John Handy's "New View". In the 70s I fell asleep EVERY time I put this on... https://youtu.be/YWSmY1Qwfuw ...I'm falling asleep listening to it now..... Quote
erwbol Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Perhaps we could start a new thread..."Music That Always Sends Me To Sleep". Ahmad Jamal? Quote
colinmce Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Lots and lots of piano trios, esp. 50s vintage. (Not Ahmad though!) Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Waltz for Debby does it for me. In the narcoleptic sense. Quote

alankin Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 Reminds me of my introduction to Ornette. In the early 60's, I'd read about him before I'd heard his music. I bought a copy of Ornette, took it home, played it, and just couldn't hear what was there. Very disappointing, but I hadn't heard much jazz at that point. I came home from work the next day and put the record on. I was lying down because I was tired, and this time I was relaxed and I wasn't trying so hard to listen. Ornette's music got through to me, and it's been there for me ever since. I remember that I was so tired and relaxed that I actually fell asleep before side one ended. I had a similar experience with Coltrane's "The Other Village Vanguard Tapes". Quote
