Sundog
Is anybody else digging this album? I'm seriously impressed by this teenage phenom. She really delivers the goods. Anyone who likes traditional Soul and R&B should check this out. The Real Deal!
A Lark Ascending
But she comes from Devon! I've lived in Devon! Gorgeous county. But not a place to get the blues! Does she sing with a West Country brrrrrr!
Sundog
Hey, I'm a white boy from the Chicago suburbs so consider the source. However, she sings with an edge, conviction, and understanding of the material that belie her age. She's got soul, that comes across loud and clear to me. Cheers! A Lark Ascending
I'm joking, Sundog. I've read about her but not heard her. If she's convincing in Chicago that's high praise! Devon has produced more than cream teas and finger-in-your-ear traditional folk singers! Mike Westbrook and John Surman for two! tonym
She's all over the place in the UK. Did anyone else think that video was a KFC commercial at first?
danasgoodstuff
I think we've had this discussion before and I piped in with some rude but oh sooooo clever putdown, but I can't remember what and I'm too lazy to find it and post a link... She can't go on singing old soul forever (or maybe she can?), so I'm curious what she does next.
Brandon Burke
Did anyone else think that video was a KFC commercial at first? The only reason I've heard he at all was because I noticed ?uestlove on the drums in the video. Is he on the record? Does he play on the whole thing? Produce? The presence of that guy on any session means instant soul credibility in my opinion.

He is indeed listed on AMG, but I don't know on which and how many tracks he performs and produces. Cindy Blackman is also listed.

She can't go on singing old soul forever (or maybe she can?), so I'm curious what she does next. She's off to a great start. I'm hoping she eventually begins to write her own material. A little life experience could help on this matter. For the last 5 years or so I've been telling anyone who would listen, that we need a real R&B and Soul singer on the scene. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Anyone who can take a White Stripes song and turn it into a slinky, soulful cover is thinking outside the box. That's an extremely good thing!
