JSngry Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 I can't think of any off hand, but I know there've been a few. Talk about efficiency, write a song, make a record, it connects with the masses, all in under two minutes. Hell, it take me longer than that to find my glasses sometimes! Quote
Aggie87 Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 (edited) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqU9PqIhuIY edit - I'm not sure it actually was a Top 40 hit, but it hits your other criteria.. Edited March 11, 2015 by Aggie87 Quote

GA Russell Posted March 16, 2015 Report Posted March 16, 2015 By the way, not too long ago I found on the web a list of every English #1 song going back to (I think) 1960. I was surprised to see that of all the British Invasion acts, 1) The first to have a #1 hit was not The Beatles, it was Gerry & the Pacemakers; 2) The song was How Do You Do It?; and 3) This was in April of 1963. How Do You Do It? was a hit in the US in August of '64, some 16 months later. That's quite a long time. And you Brits might also be interested to learn that the B side in the US was You'll Never Walk Alone, which had already been another of their hits in England, was later re-issued in the US as an A side and became a hit, and was the basis of the Liverpool fans singing that song at their games. GA Russell Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 On this date in 1958, Billboard published its first Top 100 list. Coming in at number one was Poor Little Fool by Ricky Nelson. http://www.businessinsider.com/billboard-hot-100-began-58-years-ago-here-are-the-top-hits-from-1958-2016-8 I thought of this thread a couple of days ago when I read in the paper the identity of the shortest song ever to reach #1 on the Billboard Top 100 chart. Anybody want to guess before I tell the answer? Quote
GA Russell Posted August 5, 2016 Report Posted August 5, 2016 Well, since no one has guessed, I will tell you the answer. The shortest #1 on the Billboard Top 100 chart was Stay by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, which clocked in at 1:37. Quote
paul secor Posted August 6, 2016 Report Posted August 6, 2016 Man, I hope you're not serious. I love that record. Quote
JSngry Posted August 6, 2016 Author Report Posted August 6, 2016 I am. It's used for a casino ad here and has become grotesque to me. That and Jackson Browne. Quote
paul secor Posted August 7, 2016 Report Posted August 7, 2016 I'll agree that Jackson Browne is grotesque. Quote
JSngry Posted August 7, 2016 Author Report Posted August 7, 2016 Do you have casino ads in your town? Quote
paul secor Posted August 7, 2016 Report Posted August 7, 2016 No casinos here, so no casino ads, with the exception of a very occasional TV ad for Atlantic City, Connecticut or Vegas. I just ignore those. Quote
JSngry Posted August 7, 2016 Author Report Posted August 7, 2016 Sarah Silverman has a gig at WinStar coming up I think it's got all the ingredients for a lifetime memory, but WinStar itself is just so fucking,,,, gaudy that I can't bring myself to buy a ticket. It's not like Vegas or something where there's an environment, it's just...drive north on 75 through pretty much nothing, cross the state line into Oklahoma, dive past a porn shop, drive through a few minutes more of nothing, and then up pops this vast expanse of tacky that in the day looks like a ginormous prison, only without the barbed wire fences. It takes a minute or two to drive all the way past it and then you're right back into unpopulated Oklahoma. I don't know if it's WinStar that uses "Stay" in their commercials, but the notion of just going there creeps me out. Actually staying creates an image of volunteering for snuff porn. And don't get me wrong, I do enjoy me some games of chances. But not like that. Quote

The worst thing about it is actually that smoking is allowed in the casino. Edited August 7, 2016 by kh1958 Quote
JSngry Posted August 7, 2016 Author Report Posted August 7, 2016 Kinda gives it that roadhouse vibe, eh? Quote
