Non-Novelty Top 40 Hits < 2 Minutes

By the way, not too long ago I found on the web a list of every English #1 song going back to (I think) 1960.

I was surprised to see that of all the British Invasion acts,

1) The first to have a #1 hit was not The Beatles, it was Gerry & the Pacemakers;

2) The song was How Do You Do It?; and

3) This was in April of 1963. How Do You Do It? was a hit in the US in August of '64, some 16 months later. That's quite a long time.

And you Brits might also be interested to learn that the B side in the US was You'll Never Walk Alone, which had already been another of their hits in England, was later re-issued in the US as an A side and became a hit, and was the basis of the Liverpool fans singing that song at their games.

On this date in 1958, Billboard published its first Top 100 list.  Coming in at number one was Poor Little Fool by Ricky Nelson.

I thought of this thread a couple of days ago when I read in the paper the identity of the shortest song ever to reach #1 on the Billboard Top 100 chart.  Anybody want to guess before I tell the answer?

Sarah Silverman has a gig at WinStar coming up  I think it's got all the ingredients for a lifetime memory, but WinStar itself is just so fucking,,,, gaudy that I can't bring myself to buy a ticket. It's not like Vegas or something where there's an environment, it's just...drive north on 75 through pretty much nothing, cross the state line into Oklahoma, dive past a porn shop, drive through a few minutes more of nothing, and then up pops this vast expanse of tacky that in the day looks like a ginormous prison, only without the barbed wire fences. It takes a minute or two to drive all the way past it and then you're right back into unpopulated Oklahoma.

I don't know if it's WinStar that uses "Stay" in their commercials, but the notion of just going there creeps me out. Actually staying creates an image of volunteering for snuff porn.

And don't get me wrong, I do enjoy me some games of chances. But not like that.

I've seen Buddy Guy there twice, Robert Cray and B.B. King. All enjoyable experiences. The worst thing about it is actually that smoking is allowed in the casino.
