Scott Dolan Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Definitely a less expensive option to an Apple TV. Too bad it doesn't have a digital out, but that's obviously a major reason they were able to keep the price insanely low! But, sounds like the internal DAC is quite good, so a pretty darn good trade off. Quote
.:.impossible Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 You might want to look at this as an option. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I59VBH4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Stefan et al, I don't believe you can pair a device with multiple Bluetooth receivers simultaneously can you? Streaming one or multiple sources over a LAN to various rooms is what attracts people to Sonos and Squeezecenter. Squeeze is open-source. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Well, I just connect it to my stereo with an rca jack. Stream stuff from my computer. If I want to stream it to another room I would get another one. But I don't live in a world where outputting the music through multiple sources simultaneously makes sense. Quote
.:.impossible Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Some people want "whole house" solutions. Nothing wrong with the way you are doing it! Quote
Stefan Wood Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Then Sonos would be a better option for those seeking a high networked solution. Quote
.:.impossible Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Scott, can you synchronize a stream to multiple AppleTV? I notice that the price is now $69. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 I honestly don't know, but I don't think so. The only reason I say that is when using the remote app, you have to choose a device. So in my case I have to choose either my Airport Express, or my Apple TV. Now, I only have one of each, so that's why I'm not entirely sure. Excellent question, though! I need to research that. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Wow! The answer seems to be a definite yes! Considering I have three complete systems in the house, that changes everything. Thanks for even suggesting it .:.impossible! What a fantastic duhscovery! Quote
.:.impossible Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 I have two, but have never tried using them in this way. I don't own anything that accepts toslink. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 I have two, but have never tried using them in this way. I don't own anything that accepts toslink. Interesting. How do you have them connected? HDMI? Either way, the connection shouldn't matter. Try running something through both and report back. From everything I've read, they should be perfectly synched. Very cool! Quote
.:.impossible Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 ATV>HDMI>TV ATV>HDMI>TV>RCA>AMP Quote
Eric Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 (edited) I have been looking at the AudioEngine Bluetooth receiver as an alternative to the Airport Express. Maybe use it in an office. There is a good review of it at computeraudiophile.com. I currently have a Bluetooth speaker in my office at work and my daughter has one in her bedroom. Both are handy and sound fine for their respective rooms. It seems to me the AudioEngine device ups the game a little, i.e. gives you the opportunity to connect to a stereo with a relatively high-quality Bluetooth signal. Product link:http://audioengineusa.com/Store/B1-Bluetooth-Music-Receiver The choices and alternatives for all this stuff (under the category "home music streaming") are growing at a fairly rapid pace, which is great for consumers.
