Hardbopjazz
It was so much better 20 or 30 years ago when everyone was hypnotized by mind altering drugs and not by electronic gadgets.
A Lark Ascending
I always hope Mercer Ellington was being ironic.

jazzbo
It's all the same in some sort of weird timewarpy matter: generational reactions to the cultural and technological brew.
page
It seems to me the world is turning more and more into a 'me, myself and I' attitude, and the cell phone treatment is just one example of that.

Hardbopjazz
Today, Sunday, I went to the local coffee shop. There were two young girls, around 15 or 16. They were sitting at a table texting each other instead of talking. I know they were texting each other. One world type something and then look at the other. The beep would sound on the cell and she would read; back and forth.
JSngry
We're as generally mediocre a species as we've always been. Technology just allows us to realize it more efficiently than ever before. I did bong hits, my kids are doing cell phones. Nobody's doing anything they don't already want to do. And when it comes time to really DO something, thank god for today. Now, you take the kids who are doing bong hits AND cell phones, them I might worry about, at least long term. That's tempting implosion just a teensy bit too much. But really, you never know. You just never know.
