B. Clugston Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Ethan Iverson posted this on his blog a few years back: HH wrote in about another mystery, Carl Brown, the bassist on the Lacy/Cherry Evidence. "I asked Billy Higgins about Carl Brown. I was assuming it was a stage name. He said that was his real name and something like, 'He came to NY, did what he had to do and he split.'" http://dothemath.typepad.com/dtm/2011/04/we-see.html Quote
colinmce Posted November 23, 2014 Report Posted November 23, 2014 Still dying to hear that Don Cherry date. Maybe some day. Is the Steve Lacy date the one with Denis Charles & Roswell Rudd that was eventually released? That was done for Verve. Did Lacy also record for Atlantic? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted November 23, 2014 Report Posted November 23, 2014 (edited) Still dying to hear that Don Cherry date. Maybe some day. Is the Steve Lacy date the one with Denis Charles & Roswell Rudd that was eventually released? That was done for Verve. Did Lacy also record for Atlantic? Yes he did a date for Atlantic. As discussed earlier in this thread (see post #2), it was a trio with Carl Brown and Billy Higgins. I have both sessions. Edited November 24, 2014 by Chuck Nessa Quote
colinmce Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 Yeah, I saw. Just double checking it's strange, the Verve date is frequently mentioned but this is the first I've heard of the Atlantic. I wonder what Lacy sounded like in a trio at that time. Listening to Evidence yesterday, he sounds like himself, but still a small ways off from coming fully into his own style. Also I don't think Brown sounds remotely like Charlie Haden. He plays well, but offers mostly support. I don't know what it would take for Haden to lay back like that. Quote
bertrand Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 What would it take to get these recordings released? Is crowdfunding an option if all the permissions can be secured? Bertrand. Quote
