John L Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) I noticed a recent onslaught of music for downloand at Amazon under the "Doxy" label: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=doxy+collectionIs this legal? The prices are VERY low. Massive collections of Roy Acuff, Jack Teagarden, Louis Armstrong, Andy Kirk, Roy Acuff etc. can be had for $4.99 each. Some concerts of Miles, Coltrane, Rollins and Evans are mostly $1.99 each. clifford_thornton Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 If it is the same Doxy that reissues historical jazz and classical recordings on LP with weird new sleeve art, then they are most certainly not legit. Quote
colinmce Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 This looks to be something else. They put the right musician pictures on the "sleeve" at least, but streaming euro bootlegs for certain. Quote
JSngry Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 Just remember - if you sell the drugs, build the playground. Quote
peterintoronto Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 Doxy is a joke. Saw this Coltrane Village Vanguard set last night and snapped a pic: Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 22, 2015 Report Posted February 22, 2015 Did a little research and they are the same Doxy label. Abraxas does all this stuff, and while there may be a few legitimately licensed titles, the bulk is bootlegged. The Italians strike again. Quote
John L Posted February 23, 2015 Author Report Posted February 23, 2015 Thanks for that information. It just goes to show how difficult it has become to enforce copyright laws. I guess that Amazon will keep selling downloads of pirated music until a judge tells them to take down one or another item / label. Quote
