Back in the day, Eastern Rebellion was very popular. I like Flanagan's Jazz Poet - it's one of his trio dates. He did a lot of these, so whether it's a "must-have" depends on how many others you have.

and remains excellent music, as does the Carter Jefferson and the Pharoah Sanders. And I like the Blakey. This is a nice set of releases.

I don't see any true (imo) "must-have" items on that list, but I don't see any "avoid at all costs" items either...if you think you already know what to expect from this catalog, odd are that you're correct, so proceed according to what you think you're going to like. It's all good, as they say, only this time it's for real.

And fwiw, nobody ever went wrong buying an Arnett Cobb record. Nobody.

some of the Timeless ones were part of their "black" remasters series (Cohn, Baker, Flanagan ... there were others not on the list, such as that fine George Coleman album). The Cobb is indeed the one that does look tempting!

What's the Edwards? The Contemporary album? Or was there another one using that title?

Only got the Griffin recently, haven't played it often yet, but I guess it's not amongst his best, yet as Mr. Sangrey said, definitely not one to categorically avoid (and surely not if you love Griff half as much as I do).

I've thought about getting Carter Jefferson/The Rise Of Atlantis for eons. Somebody convince me the time is right.

I've never heard it, but I think Hino is on it, iirc (and Woody Shaw produced it, right?). Maybe finally.

I have always enjoyed it, the title track being my favorite. Own it on a Muse lp from back in the day.

I have 12 of the CDs listed on Timeless. For me the Tommy Flanagan - Jazz Poet - is definitely essential.

Three others I like very much are :

Eastern Rebellion arrived today.

Mastered by Toshiyuki Abe who also did the Bethlehem albums for Solid. Not as loud as the stereo Bethlehems. Not a lot of bottom end, but that's probably the recording. At least Abe didn't try to boost the lowest and highest frequencies. And that's a relief.
