skeith Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 Just recently picked up this trio recording with Haden and Motian. It runs the gamut from very melodic to some pretty out sounding stuff with Jarrett doing a Pharoah-like sound on sax at times. Performances are quite good...but I have not decided if this is essential Anyone else have thoughts on this one? Quote
jazzbo Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 There have been a number of positive posts about this release here and there on the board. I like it, listened through it attentively only once though, need to revisit it, but it's staying in the collection. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 I've never heard a record that is 'essential'. But I found this record really exciting. As someone who came to Jarrett around that time - and I was not yet a jazz listener - it reminded me of why he grabbed my attention. By comparison his development since c. 1980 has revealed few lightbulb moments. Lots of enjoyable music - but nothing of the frisson I felt then. Quote

"essential" was probably too strong of a word to use.... thanks for your comments Quote
