The Magnificent Goldberg
I remembered over dinner that Jackie Mills was on Jimmy McGriff's first LP - 'I got a woman' and Freddie Roach's 'The soul book'.Very nice album. Thanks Jim.MG
mikeweil
Jackie Mills plays very well on some Wiggins piano trio album, too.
JSngry
Jackie Mills went back to the Swing Era days, so he knew what a dance beat was. I first knew of him from the Lionel Hampton Just Jazz record, and then with that fine Harry James band that had Willie Smith in it. This is a short but pretty sweet interview here: https://www.namm.org/library/oral-history/jackie-mills
mikeweil
Remember he was a mainstay of Boyd Raeburn's band, too, and must have been Dodo Marmarosa's favorite drummer during the latter's California dasy. Do we have an unsung drum hero in Mills?
JSngry
Perhaps. Definitely an easily-overlooked contributor of quality.
