waldek
Can anybody help me in identifying an unknown bossa nova from the 60’s?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=max_mRv_a-Q The tune’s title and composer are indicated incorrectly on the label. I need to find out the original title of the tune. I am sure the composition was written by some famous jazz musician from USA or Brasilia. Thanks in advance! ArtSalt
The tune doesn't ring a bell with me, nor is the playing by any of the Bossa Nova greats, it's quite possibly neither Brazilian or American either.
JSngry
Well, here's the record: http://www.discogs.com/Estradin%C4%97s-Melodijos-Jupi-ja/release/4365260 And this might be the band: http://www.discogs.com/Estradin%C4%97s-Melodijos-Vokalinis-Instrumentinis-Ansamblis-Estradin%C4%97s-Melodijos/release/3033033
seeline
I think that whoever wrote it spent a lot of time listening to both Brazilian music and North American interpretations of bossa nova and samba jazz, but my guess is that the links JSngry posted give you the information you are looking for. ArtSalt
At this stage, it appears confirmed it is not a long lost private pressing by Tom Jobim!
waldek
Well, here's the record: http://www.discogs.com/Estradin%C4%97s-Melodijos-Jupi-ja/release/4365260 And this might be the band: http://www.discogs.com/Estradin%C4%97s-Melodijos-Vokalinis-Instrumentinis-Ansamblis-Estradin%C4%97s-Melodijos/release/3033033 Dear seeline, thank you for the answer, but on my previous post I wrote, that the tune’s title and composer are indicated incorrectly on the label. I know these records very well. "). I took this unknown track from them exactly. It is a lithuanian band "Estradines melodijos" (in english "Variety Tunes”). Please understand, these vinyls were recorded in the end of the 60‘s, when USSR was separated by the iron curtain. At that time music from the West reached them by the radio only. Unsurprisingly, then Soviet musicians couldn‘t have exact information about Western music and the creators. Here is another similar example, which I identified. The same band is played the famous Roland Kirk's composition "Serenade To A Cuckoo". But the tune's title and the name of composer is also indicated incorrectly on the label. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63z-wqOOYMM&feature=youtu.be
