JSngry Posted December 28, 2014 Report Posted December 28, 2014 With all the nightmare customer service tales we hear here about the faceless warehouse nameplate operations, it's a pleasure to deal with people who have a direct stake in delivering a successful outcome to a customer who has not yet had one. I've signed up for the mailing list, and will definitely stay tuned going forth. BIG props to Amir & Jordan for the way they handled all this, very hands-on, effective, and personable. Kudos! Quote
SMB1968 Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 My cd arrived today, complete with System Dialing Records car decal and book of matches [there's a first]. It's an interesting album, feels a bit like the Naked Lunch stuff with a healthy dollop of later Bill Dixon thrown in. Anyone know why this was in the can for five years? Quote
edski Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 I received this the other day, with, like @SMB1968, a sticker and a book of matches! The CD comes in a printed cardboard sleeve. Unlike the photo posted on the System Dialing site, the print is black and white (not black and gold/tan). According to the sleeve, it was recorded July 18-20, 2009. Sounds fantastic so far. So good to hear that Ornette Sound... Quote
xybert Posted January 2, 2015 Author Report Posted January 2, 2015 Thanks for the info guys, i'm looking to place an order after the holiday period. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 Special thanks to Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal? Guess they must have backed the project. Quote
David Ayers Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 Just a pity that Sony or Universal weren't backing it. Quote
B. Clugston Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 Just a pity that Sony or Universal weren't backing it. I doubt Coleman would deal with them, and besides, they probably would have made a mess of it. This release seems to be getting out there--I saw a vinyl version in a record store the other day. Quote
medjuck Posted January 5, 2015 Report Posted January 5, 2015 Special thanks to Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal? Guess they must have backed the project. That's explained in post 30 but I'm curious about the thanks to Bill T Jones and Jac Holzman. BTW Record is really good. Quote
ATR Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 Where is the tab for ordering this as a compact disc on the website? I only see downloads and LP. Quote
xybert Posted January 8, 2015 Author Report Posted January 8, 2015 Where is the tab for ordering this as a compact disc on the website? I only see downloads and LP. I just had a look, and yeah it looks like the CD option is no longer there. Interesting, i wonder if they have sold out? A lot of food for thought there. Quote

Carl Baugher Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 I like it very much. Fresh and invigorating. It's always great to hear Ornette, of course. Quote
jcam_44 Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 Cd is available at DTMG based on the newsletter I got this morning. Quote

Is it true that he was one of the first? I'd be surprised if so - seems like others might have in decades prior. Quote
johnblitweiler Posted January 19, 2015 Report Posted January 19, 2015 The CD is here, just listened to it. Lovely Ornette alto, the others are very much background. Short tracks, a wispy feeling to the project as a whole but a goodly amount of bright-sounding, warm Ornette. Quote
Justin V Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) Cd is available at DTMG based on the newsletter I got this morning. Thanks for pointing that out. It wasn't showing up on their site at first, but it is currently listed as being available. I've placed an order. I'm really excited to hear it. Edited January 20, 2015 by Justin V Quote

So many times I've placed orders, nothing arrives and then I email them weeks later and they tell me its out of stock. I've also gotten emails that they received my order a week after it arrived in my mailbox. I know they're supposedly going to update their system, but I'll probably hold off until they do. there is still squidco. Quote
JSngry Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 Really really digging this one, the playing and the ambiance of the recording both. Resonant-timely, all of that. Quote
LouisvillePrez Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 Ordered the CD from the label last week, and it arrived today. This is the first time I have ever received a free pack of matches from a record label for a CD purchase. I have enjoyed what I have heard so far. Driving in my car today, I found myself playing "The Idea Has No Destiny" on repeat. Should be my "Single of the Week" -- which means that it will be in heavy rotation on the iPod and on the car cd player. Quote
xybert Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 I thought the CD was "out of print". Looks like the CD option has been reinstated on the website. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Cool, as I'm listening to the Atlantic box now, it puts in mind I should check this out sometime soon, always intended to get "Sound Grammar" as well. Quote

Looks like the CD option has been reinstated on the website.Kind of a nuisance as getting the LP cost me around 60$ ... and they wouldn't even take it out of the cover - a small tear in the sleeve and a bruised corner for 60$ - definitely not nice.I'd have bought the CD but was assuming I'd missed out on it (the option was gone from the available offers several weeks back already).
