We sold our house, quit our jobs, and moved up to Richmond in late Spring. My wife took the summer off to spend time with the kids before the school year. She landed in a great position with the James River Association a few weeks back. Perfect fit.

I'm reluctant to share much personal information online these days. Still a bit shell-shocked for obvious reasons I guess.

Richmond is a cool town, my sister lives there. Maybe I'll look you up if I get down there again this decade. Glad it suits you all.

Never been to Richmond, but am reminded of our first trip to Omaha this past Summer. We were expecting a little cow town, but were completely blown away! The historic district has been transformed into boutique shops and outstanding restaurants. Lots of cultural offerings, highlighted by a world class zoo.

And unlike most larger midwest cities, it is bustling with activity, even well into the early morning hours. Lots of buskers about as well.

Outstanding parks and greenways, as well.

Highly recommended!

Change is such a vicious two-headed monster...buried my mom in April....today is wedding anniversary number twelve. We are demolishing the basement of my 90 year old home for a complete rebuild in the spring. Still finding out how to use my new stereo system....Bryston amp and preamp, Clearaudio Concept TT, Ayre DAC, Aerial 6T Rosewood speakers...I cry with those who have lost and are losing...I celebrate with those who are opening new doors to the future...Jazz is jazz and I lift a glass to what I learn at this site every single day... but, sometimes the realities of life intrude and I send out props, and love, and thanksgiving to a bunch of people I have not met and probably will not meet.

I'm living vicariously these days, until I get re-settled in life and maybe, someday, a fixed domicile, so I like this thread. ...maybe kinda like stephnrr

Right now, I'm trying to find a hotel for the weekend. (During the weeks and working weekends, my employers choose; non-work weekends, it's seeking out the cheap but habitable options.) I hate uncertainty, but most weeks, I go through this little ritual, putting off a decision until late Thursday or Friday, watching rates (generally) fall before pulling the trigger.

I suppose the "hate uncertainty" is kind of a lie - otherwise I'd have settled down decades ago.

Nothing much to report at my end, just muddling along. Work has been pretty full on, kind of patting myself on the back for maintaining, in my younger days i would have crumbled and walked away. Looking forward to taking some time off from mid December through to early January. My son will be 21 Months old on Saturday, i had no idea how much joy he would bring... it's been amazing watching the change in my parents too... i don't think that they realised how much they would enjoy being grandparents... i think it's been really healing for my dad in particular. It's full on though; i think the one thing that i really didn't grasp before becoming a parent was the 24/7, 365 nature of it.

That one looks like it could easily have been considered for an LT-Series Blue Note cover. (not everybody likes those photos/covers, but I've always really dug them). Nice work!

my news is that the wife and I have made an absolute decision to get out of this hell hole called Maine by April 1, 2016. The whole arts scene up here has gone from nothing to extremely nothing. I need to get to NYC more often, and I'm just fading fast up here.

We are looking at the last urban area we can afford - New Haven - which has a very nice music scene and is only a 2 hour train ride from NYC. I also have some old friends there.

I am looking for a job, 20 hours a week would work, what with various retirement and social security/pension things. But the last few years have been torture and almost complete social isolation for me up here. Just hoping my health holds out. Feeling pretty good, though I do have some hearing loss.

This new crib now feels mostly like home. Lost about 99% of my books and recordings when, after the fire, my former landlord sent everything to a landfill. Truth is, far more of those could have been salvaged; two rooms were hardly damaged, for example. I don't plan to own LPs again except for ones I wrote liner notes for, but never made it to CD.
