Brad
Good to hear about the Beehive set. Can't wait to get it. Thanks for the update Aaron. Maybe by the fall or late in the year?
John Tapscott
I think this will be a fine set. I have several Beehive recordings and enjoy them all. I think Curtis Fuller's "Fire and Filigree" is an under-rated gem. But a big hit, financially. I didn't realize it was going to be a 12 CD set; rather I thought it was going to be 2 6 CD sets. Aaron Cohen
I believe the Bee Hive box set will be at a "special price." What that price is, I just don't know. But the reason for a single 12-CD set, rather than two 6-CD sets, was that the producers felt that people would tend to purchase the volume with the titles that are considered widely popular (Johnny Hartman) and not pick up the volume that include lesser-known, yet still very worthy, artists (Dick Katz). When I said to Michael Cuscuna that I didn't know how I could carry a heavy 12-CD box set up a flight of stairs, he replied, "We'll release a special version on 78 RPM records, just for you." ejp626
He didn't offer to cut it on wax cylinders? That would make thematic sense...
Peter Friedman
What makes this set so appealing to me is that I have not seen any of the Bee Hive material previously available on CDs. With most other Mosaic sets I already had some or almost all the music on CD, but not this one. So I am definitely going to be getting this one! sidewinder
I like the sound of the 'special price'. Might well pre-order on this one.
felser
I've heard a fair amount of the Beehive releases in the past, always found the whole to be less than the sum of the parts to my ears. So I will pass. But YMMV, of course.
sgcim
Both the Salvadors are fine straight ahead sessions. I had the Starfingers LP and remember being disappointed with Salvador's playing on it, but enjoying all the sidemen on the date. He sounded sloppy and got an annoying, overly treble sound, but the sidemen sounded fine. At least back in the 50s and 60s, he was an excellent technician, but lacked the swing , creativity and subtlety of Raney, Farlow, Bean, Garcia, Kessel, Ellis, Bauer, etc... On Starfingers, even the great technique was lacking. I was discouraged from getting "Juicy Lucy" because of Starfingers, and the horrible fusion LP he made "Crystal Image" (OSLT) made me give up on Sal altogether. ghost of miles
Any update on when this is going to be released? Also, the "delayed" listing at Dusty Groove says it's a 9-CD set, as opposed to the 12 CDs previously indicated. Dusty Groove listing
Aaron Cohen
There have been some technical delays holding up the release of the Bee Hive Mosaic box. But it should, indeed, be 12 CDs once it comes out. Hopefully, within the next few months!

mikeweil
Considering the musicians involved, this is really tempting, even though these big boxes are hard on the budget.

mjzee
I'll be preordering this; my first Mosaic preorder. Â I remember when these albums came out, and owned "Fire and Filigree." Â

HutchFan
I'm just now listening to the sample tracks on Mosaic's site. One thing about the samples:  The Sal Salvador track is marked as a Ronnie Mathews track -- and vice-versa. ...No big deal. Just thought I'd mention it.I'm looking forward to this set! ejp626
Pretty definite that I will end up ordering this set. Pre-ordering? Not necessarily. It may make more sense to wait for a discount on shipping, since it can definitely add up. And maybe I can hold off until the exchange rate is a bit better. Right now it is brutal, but it may not get better for quite some time... BeBop
Brother, can you spare 1,690 dimes? I'm a little surprised that no one has "reviewed" it on Mosaic's website yet.  Edited July 29, 2015 by BeBop
Kevin Bresnahan
Ordered it. My first Mosaic pre-order. I had to do it as this has some of my favorite music that hasn't made it to CD. It will be nice get official digital versions. Some of my needle-drops are only so-so.

None of them are running low and I'll have to wait a bit before getting any of them.
