parroja
Since I can't afford the Maynard Ferguson Mosaic set, I'm looking for available Maynard Ferguson Roulette recordings on CD. Roulette CDs I've found: A Message From Birdland Double Exposure Two's Company Maynard '61 Straightaway Jazz Themes Si! Si! MF Roulette CDs that exist but I don't have: A Message From Newport Roulette LPs ( Are any of these available on CD???) Swingin My Way Through College Play Jazz for Dancing Newport Suite Let's Face the Music and Dance Maynard '62 Maynard '63 Message From Maynard Maynard '64 The World of Maynard Ferguson Edited November 21, 2014 by parroja
duaneiac
This CD has the Plays Jazz For Dancing and Let's Face The Music And Dance albums combined on it:
JSngry
Not Roulette, but immediately after, are the Cameo sessions, which are collected here http://www.amazon.com/Sounds-Maynard-Ferguson-Come-Complete-Recordings/dp/B006GVNILK Might be a little pricey these days, the large Maynard fanbase allows for that, but if you don't already have it and like the later Roulette sessions a lot, you'll most likely enjoy these every bit as much. jazzbo
Cheaper via ebay as well.
JSngry
Really surprised that more of those albums weren't released as single CDs. Maynard is like buddy Rich, there's a fan base that extends beyond "typical jazz buffs". The prices of the Mosaic set show that much. Missed opportunity perhaps. jazzbo
Yes. That "stretching beyond" may not be the case in Japan, as even they haven't brought out many.
parroja
I really appreciate the tip regarding the Dancing Sessions CD, that's one I didn't know about- now the challenge of finding it....
parroja
The Cameo recordings are excellent, any Maynard Ferguson fan will enjoy them. The CD that JSngry referenced is readily available. I think my copy came from importcds.com. Also, Frys has it now for $15.98. http://www.frys.com/product/6941267
felser
Yes. That "stretching beyond" may not be the case in Japan, as even they haven't brought out many. Nor have the Andorrans or the PD Britis companies, like Proper and Avid and Real Gone Jazz. A puzzler.
