Hardbopjazz Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 500 Million is 800 million dollars. Split that three ways that's still a lot of money. Plus they were offered a percentage of the merchandising revenue. http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/led-zeppelins-robert-plant-turns-4595788 The rock legend ripped up Sir Richard Branson’s contract for 35 dates in front of astonished promoters after the other members of the supergroup all signed up Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant has turned down a Whole Lotta Lolly – more than £500MILLION – to reform the band for the dearest tour in history. The rock legend ripped up Sir Richard Branson’s contract for 35 dates in three cities in front of astonished promoters after the other members of the supergroup all signed up. The tour would have earned singer Plant and fellow founders Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones £190million each before tax. Quote
erwbol Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Good for him. Plant is likely already a wealthy man and what would he need all those millions for at his age. He wants to pursue a different direction with the time he has left. Quote
mjzee Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 $800 million doesn't buy as much as it used to. Quote
Head Man Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 $800 million doesn't buy as much as it used to. sez who?........oh, irony...irony.... Quote
mjazzg Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Did us all a favour. Well done Percy!Enjoy what they left us Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Can understand him not wanting to be involved. But ripping up the contract in public? Seems somewhat petulant. Quote
Head Man Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Can understand him not wanting to be involved. But ripping up the contract in public? Seems somewhat petulant. Yes, I guess he should have thrown it out of the hotel window into the swimming pool....... Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 No satisfaction of the crash and splinters. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Hey, Led Zep always did go for the big gestures, and Plant's got other fish to fry so good for him. Especially if he's already said so in private and was put on the spot being handed the contract in public, did they not sound him out first? Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Understandable if he'd been put on the spot. Why were they all together? Can't work this out from the article. Quote
JSngry Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Maybe he was worried that Branson was planning on putting them on one of his rockets. Can't blame him for that! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 I heard it was less, more like $200M. Still a lot of bread! In my one interaction with him, he seemed like a nice bloke, very chill. Although he could have possibly put us closer to an ebola cure or something with that kinda change. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 You met rock & roll royalty Clifford? Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 A different interpretation: http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/nov/10/robert-plant-turned-down-500m-led-zeppelin-reformation Quote
7/4 Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Ok then...how about an ELP reunion? {duck for cover} Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) Robert should do or not do whatever he likes. I listen to more of his post-Zeppelin solo recordings than Zep, and he should follow his own muse however suits him. More power to him. Edited November 10, 2014 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Aggie87 Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 This is all good and fun, except he claims he never did that. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 You met rock & roll royalty Clifford? At first I thought he was just another aged Austin hippie hanging out in the South Congress/South First district. Which I guess, technically, he was... Quote
medjuck Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 I saw him recently at the LA Palladium. He was great. I think he's having more fun now than he would with Zep. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 maybe true. I could not escape the irony that he was holding onto several 60s Elektra blues LPs (12"). The dickhead part of me wanted to be like "haven't you taken enough?!?" Quote
BFrank Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 IIRC, the Beatles turned down huge chunks of change when they were all still alive, too. Sometimes it just doesn't make artistic sense to revisit your past - for any amount of money. Especially if you don't "need" the money. Quote

I remember Lorne Michaels offering the Beatles $10,000 or some other small amount to perform on SNL and said they could split it anyway they want if they didn't think Ringo should get a full share. Ligeti Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 Reunions. Yikes. Plant has made far better music outside of Led Zep than he ever made in it. And yes, I have all of the Led Zep output on several formats. But of course they shouldn't reform, it's done, finished. There is nothing more for Led Zep to achieve together other than generate a ton of cash and perhaps tattoo the memory of a facsimile for fans. Now, if only the Stones would stop it. And the idea that the Beatles might have reformed.... OMG no!!! Sorry, not a fan AT ALL. Quote
