romualdo Posted December 8, 2014 Report Posted December 8, 2014 I don't know anymore what to wish they'd reissue. Hum Dono filled the huge gap. Maybe Guy Warren Afro Jazz album. The early Stan Tracey's?... there's plenty of them that have never seen the light of day on CD. I'd like to see the Tracy Ellington Big Band tribute "We Love You Madly" - upgrade my Australian Columbia LP copy Has Joe Harriott in the band Quote
Jazzjet Posted December 8, 2014 Report Posted December 8, 2014 Just arrived from Vocalion and listening right now. Very nice job by Michael Dutton. No information about the remastering except 'Remastered by Michael J Dutton' on the back cover. Certainly sounds great, particularly Dave Green's bass. Nice liner notes by Amancio's son, Stephano, in addition to MIchael Shera's original sleeve notes. Very few Brit Jazz 'Holy Grails' left, with 'Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe' to come out next month, although the Tracey's mentioned above would be nice. Quote
ejp626 Posted December 10, 2014 Report Posted December 10, 2014 Strange click at 7.33 on Jaipur, not on my record. No reference to tapes on the CD. am guessing needle drop. Not bad sound though.AnthonyHmm, that's too bad, though I have Jaipur from another source -- Impressed (the Gilles Peterson compilation) -- so at worst I could piece the two together. Quote
Head Man Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Boy, you must have good ears..... There is a faint click at 7:32 but I'd never have noticed without you spotting it. Overall I'm very happy with sound. Quote
sidewinder Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 So maybe the story is true then that the master tapes have been lost? Quote

That one's already out, got mine 10 days ago or so ... will have to order the Harriott soon, too! Quote

king ubu Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 "Dejeuner", yes - ordered from the label a while ago. Quote
sidewinder Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 I guess that must be the case (there's a few clicks towards the end of NNNT too). Not selling my vinyl yet (with its imprint of a past 50p pricing in the corner!) Anthony Interesting - decimalisation came in around 1972 so one must suspect that this one was a deletion from the early to mid 70s. Wish I had a Tardis to snag such gems at this sort of price ! jlhoots Posted December 28, 2014 Report Posted December 28, 2014 My copy of Hum Dono was shipped from the U.K. on Dec. 5 & still hasn't arrived. I e- mailed them & received a nice reply thanking me for my patience. Should I ask for it to be reshipped or for a refund?. Quote

sidewinder Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 Curious to hear what sort of job Dutton Vocalion have done on this, needle drop or not. The shops are shut today alas so it will have to be off to the CD emprorium tomorrow.. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 I wasn't blown away by the sound of this CD myself... Quote

Clunky Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 I wasn't blown away by the sound of this CD myself... Very interesting ! I've been playing this in the car for the past few days only this morning in the home Hifi . It sounds just fine to me. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 I wasn't blown away by the sound of this CD myself... Compared to what.....? Compared to the FLAC download I previously had. I'm not saying it doesn't sound "good"... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 I'm fine with the sound, and can't afford an OG... Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 Neither can I...I guess the thing is I've been enjoying a lot of these recent Japanese SHM blue note CDs and they sound incredible...really analog sounding. So when I played this CD I wasn't as impressed... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 Yeah, I hear you - it's not "stellar" sound but it's more than adequate for me, as far as getting the music across. Fantastic playing here - Harriott is in excellent form. Quote
