Anyone familiar? http://www.allmusic.com/artist/anachronic-jazz-band-mn0001201580/biography The 2-disc Jazz in Paris set offers some very interesting music: http://www.amazon.com/Anthropology-Jazz-Paris-Anachronic-Band/dp/B001PU6SYG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415058736&sr=8-1&keywords=Anachronic+jazz+band Certainly an unusual band! gregmo Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Now THAT sounds like an original way of adapting tunes. Why limit yourself to hearing "King Porter Stomp" played by Westcoast jazz musicians, for example, or Steve Lacy's first recordings for Jaguar? Why not the other way round, for once, too? Cannot recall having heard about them "at the time" (but probaby I just did not pay attention). Time to make up for that oversight. Quote
king ubu Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Definitely worth looking for. http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B001PU6SYG/ http://www.amazon.de/dp/B001PU6SYG/ Quote

Ted O'Reilly Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 My good friend Arild Wideroe has been presenting jazz concerts in Baden Switzerland for 50 Years (!) and is shortly wrapping up that part of his life with a Jubilee Weekend, featuring the Anachronic Jazz Band. Here's a Google translation to English of the webpage: http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://jazzinderaula.ch/&prev=search And for those who can follow, here's the original : http://jazzinderaula.ch/page.php?13 Wideroe's done an amazing number of fine concerts with international stars, many of the events appearing on records: http://jazzinderaula.ch/page.php?13 Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 That band has gone through a lot of changes over the years, breaking up and reforming. Here's a 2013 You Tube clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WbwhE7Lk6c It's all great fun.... Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Haven't heard these guys, but I'm intregued, partly because there have been a number of similar things done with various styles/periods of rock/R&B - e.g., 'Godfrey Daniels' who did a version of "Proud Mary" which started "old" and ended "real old". Haven't there been several jazz projects More or less along these lines recently? Quote
