Thanks to his efforts I got to see the following close up at his club: Hank Mobley, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Johnny Griffin, Max Roach, Leo Wright, Carmell Jones and Tubby Hayes. Somehow I missed the Rollins show and the Archie Shepp group.

Yes, and they established something of a North of England circuit. In Leeds I saw Lee Konitz, Johnny Griffin (again), Cecil Payne, Jimmy Witherspoon, Freddie Hubbard, Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath and the Polish Modern Jazz Quartet.
