JSngry Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 I see the catalog popping up as new offerings at one of our Friendly Barcelonan Purveyors Of All Sorts Of Things...anybody know if a legit deal has been cut with the company, or is this more....you know? Quote
jeffcrom Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 Well, there's still a website. I've ordered from it, but not for several years. Quote
JSngry Posted October 24, 2014 Author Report Posted October 24, 2014 Yeah, that website is pretty, uh...un-alive. All the order links lead you to an Amazon "Lennie Tristano" search result page & Paris Jazz Corner. Quote
jeffcrom Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 Yeah, after posting the link, I poked around a little bit and came to the same conclusion. Quote
Quasimado Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) The company that Jazz Records appears to be linked with on some CD sites (Orchard) would seem to have a NY address, for what it's worth ... Q Edited October 24, 2014 by Quasimado Quote
CraigP Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 Has anyone heard the sextet recording, I believe it's called Wow? Opinions? Quote
colinmce Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 It's all worth having. I don't think these are bootlegs, no. Just because the company isn't totally active doesn't mean the stock isn't genuine. Quote
jeffcrom Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 Has anyone heard the sextet recording, I believe it's called Wow? Opinions? Lo-fi, made on a wire recorder, if I recall, but excellent music - in the vein of the Captiol sides. Quote

See, that's what I'm hoping, that the company is now at best semi-active (because it takes time to do that type thing right) and that a deal was made to empty out excess inventory.. So with that hope at best 51% alive until hearing otherwise...check this out. Because this stuff is all going for "above retail" from Amazon sellers. http://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/40025525/complete-catalog-of-the-label-jazz-records Quote
jeffcrom Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 I found the 1984 Jazz LP True Fun by Liz Gorrill, Lenny Popkin, and Eddie Gomez in an Atlanta record store today. It has apparently never come out on CD. I talk about it Quote

Quasimado Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 Received JR 14 CD today - excellent - tracks are from the long out-of-print East Wind LP/CD. Previously unreleased “Lullabye” and portions of “Pastime” and “Ju-Ju” are fascinating ... Production was done in France - I read somewhere that Lennie Popkin and Carol Tristano (producers) are/ were now centered there (?). Q Quote

Descriptions of CDs with this title on Amazon and Ebay are so vague that I can't tell whether they are referring to this new Jazz issue or not. Quote
