JSngry
Links "m"-phatically edited to bring within board policy regarding linking to bootlegs, which these are (these not Euro-PD compilations, although the Brubeck/Storyville is partially that, but are old-school boots of live gigs). mjzee
That's pretty late Dex. And check out that band!
felser
That's pretty late Dex. And check out that band! Yeah, quite a band, but check out the band on the Round Midnight CD's, and those are so bland as to be virtually unlistenable to me. Though the length on these tracks seems promising. Don't know if Dex could still bring it in 1987 or not, as I have no recorded proof that he could - any thoughts on his 1987 playing?
Chuck Nessa
I was there and felt sorry for Dexter but he and Maxine seemed please afterwards. Memory says skip.
jeffsjazz
Thanks for the responses, sorry for the huge links. Jeff
JSngry
FWIW, the Brubeck Storyville stuff released by Columbia was pretty good.
Big Beat Steve
Links "m"-phatically edited to bring within board policy regarding linking to bootlegs, which these are (these not Euro-PD compilations, although the Brubeck/Storyville is partially that, but are old-school boots of live gigs). Not wanting to stir up an age-old discussion, but just to understand this policy: Assuming we are talking about this kind of releases, would it be OK by the board policy, for example, to crearly write the artists, the entire disc title and the label name and catalog number but no link and then possibly indicating which mail order/online seller we are talking about ? Which incidentally would be fine with me and after all it should not be an unsurmountable task for ANYBODY to follow such information by AGAIN typing the information via any search engine or on any website in order to locate that disc. Cannot possibly be so that any effort to be made beyond clicking on a link would be considered too awkward for anybody, right?
JSngry
The rule is against linking only, not discussing (in whatever form that takes).
Big Beat Steve
OK, thanks. Suits me fine anyway. Following up a full title (if really interested) on your own instead of just relying on the convenience of a clickable link should not be too much of an effort for anybody. felser
Per the Dex discussion, thanks Chuck for the insght. The latest convincing recording I'm aware of is 'Gotham City' from 1981. 'American Classic' from 1982 has always been a disappointment to my ears. Was 1981 the last really strong year for him, or did he play Dex-level well later than that? mjzee
I downloaded this from eMusic, and can recommend it:
jeffcrom
I downloaded this from eMusic, and can recommend it: Yep, although sound quality ain't great - at least on the CD. I was there - it was a great night, even though the clubowner had to explain that "LTD" stood for "Late Tall Dexter."
jeffsjazz
Not to ruffle anyone's feathers but why are clickable links frowned upon?
JSngry
Clickable links per se are perfectly fine. It's what the link leads to that matters. Per forum rules: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=boardrules 7) We do not allow sharing, trading, or linking copyrighted material that is being offered illegally, including bootlegs. Since jazzmessenger.com appears to offer "regular" items, a link to their home page would be ok. However, linking to any specific items among their offerings which are certainly bootlegs by any definition (i.e. - audience/broadcast recordings released without full and proper clearances by all applicable parties) is disallowed. Note that discussion of such items is in no way discouraged.
