xybert Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/17/business/media/cd-loving-japan-resists-move-to-digital-music-.html?_r=0 People seem to mostly either be advocates for streaming/paid downloads/unpaid downloads or Vinyl... CDs rarely get any love! Anyway, this article made me feel like a bit less of a random weirdo for digging CDs. And it's Japan, too. the kids love Japan! Therefore i am cool, amirite? lolololol zomg etc Quote
7/4 Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 CDs are so retro and cool. Remember the '90s? Quote
sonnymax Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 ...And it's Japan, too. the kids love Japan! Therefore i am cool, amirite? lolololol zomg etc Oh, yes indeed. You're the coolest. Just ask these Japanese kids. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 I still buy CD's too, but I rip them to my hard drive. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 I still buy CDs too. Like vinyl, I find the physical object gives me a bit more 'connection' to the music as opposed to 1000's of digital files on a computer. Of course it's easier to just rip all your CDs/vinyl to a computer and just click the track you want to play but I like reading some liner notes, looking at the cover, etc while listening to an album. jazzbo Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 I think I might be Japanese. CD mainly (a bit of vinyl) for me, and I've been buying a lot directly from Japan the last year. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 If the CDs are well-produced/manufactured, and seem like some care went into them, I'm all for it. Otherwise... if they're just MP3s of milquetoast free jazz on a disc in a shitty paperboard sleeve, I could care less (hence recent house-cleanings). Quote
ArtSalt Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 I misread this thread at first, I thought Japan was moving to the cloud/downloading! That didn't fit in with my understanding of the Japanese psyche. Quote
