Yeah it might not of been where he wanted to go whether that was ego and/or his ambition to keep moving further but its still surprising to hear an electric version of this whether Miles plays on it or not. He could have chosen for them to play "Directions" or something else that his band was used to playing at that time. Quote

I know I've read or even seen in an interview (like maybe an online clip), with Grossman -- that this happened at his suggestion -- something to the effect that he wanted (even just once) to be able to say he played So What wth Miles, and "with Miles band" was as close as he could get. Maybe have even read/heard it here on this board. That's interesting. Was there any other tunes from the 50's or 60's he talked about playing? Even if it was just a warm up tune. Quote

I just discovered a Round Midnight recording from 1968 with Chick Corea AND Wynton Kelly both on Electric Pianos. Quote

Gheorghe Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Great stuff, really ! Really knocked me out. But I wasn´t that much surprised. Even from 1970 on, sometimes they went straight ahead. Even as far as in 1975, on Agartha and Pangaea, on each of the albums there is a straight ahead section, on the C-side if I remember right. And on the 1981 "The Man with the Horn" (Ursula), and the straight ahead sections on "Kix" from "We Want Miles". On that 1970 stuff, I don´t think it is really "So What", they just walk on in a modal manner in the key of D, they don´t play the channel in E-flat. So it´s not the AABA pattern, they just "go ahead"...... Quote

Last known Walkin recording is from December 1968. Last known Round Midnight recording is from October 1969. Quote
