Leeway Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 This link takes you to an extended account of an interview with Helen More, might even be the whole of the book: http://jasonpalmerjazz.wordpress.com/2011/03/16/the-story-of-helen-morgan-if-you-didnt-know-already/ Quote
l p Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 >>.She recalled the time when a well known jazz musician passed and he was asked to play at the funeral. Lee told her that he could not do it because he did not have any shoes.>>> yes, this makes me want to believe the whole interview. they always paint themselves as saviors. it's like there's a 'how to' book for wives of dead musicians that they all check out from the local library. bertrand Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 This month's Jazz Times has an interview with the cop who rode with Lee to the hospital. I thought the police report was AWOL per Jeff McMillan's book, so I wonder how they found him. Bertrand, Quote
mr jazz Posted August 25, 2014 Report Posted August 25, 2014 The whole thing is just sad. A great talent who died way too young. Quote
bertrand Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 Meanwhile, no one seems remotely interested in the 60+ unrecorded Lee Morgan tunes I found at the Library of Congress 20+ years ago. Thomas will be doing a book signing at Sankofa bookstore in DC on 9/11 at 6:30 (near Howard University). I was going there anyway for the gig at 8, so I will try to stop by early and see what's up. king ubu Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 I'd be interested in hearing them Might be a project for The Cookers? Quote
mr jazz Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 The Cookers would be perfect. Sounds like a kickstarter project to me unless a label will fund it. Quote
bertrand Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 The Cookers mostly play group originals though. They are not really a repertory band. Bertrand. Quote
king ubu Posted September 6, 2014 Report Posted September 6, 2014 I know ... it still seemed kind of like a natural idea though. But anyways, there'd surely be others capable of doing this in a good way! Quote
