My favorite Mosaic set, given the quality of the music and the difficulty in finding much of the material elsewhere (Blue Note has not been kind to Elvin Jones in the CD era).

Yeah, all of these records are excellent. It doesn't seem like they get talked about much among the BN hounds.

I grown to really like the later studio material, discs #5 and #6 of the set, a lot more than when I first heard them. Not the very best material out of the whole set, but too easily overlooked.

I forget, was the date with Lee Morgan only issued as part of one of the brown-cover two-fers? Or did it ever get issued by itself (as a single LP)?

Or, rather, what cover (or covers) have ever accompanied the Elvin date from this set with Lee Morgan? I've always wished it had come out on CD by itself at some point -- an easily overlooked/underrated date.

Yes, it came out first time on the brown twofer back around 1975/76 coupled with the 'At This Point In Time' session. I remember buying it as a cutout and being astonished at just how good it was. Prime Elvin and Morgan - with the added bonus of fine Coleman and Farrell.

Considering the great response that Hank got for his OOP Mosaic sets did I overprice the Elvin Jones set? Or is it just that everyone that wants it has it? I'm curious to know. If so, I'll just move it to Ebay.

I think it was your unwillingness to consider the yak and the wheeless skateboard. That type of blatant prejudice is no longer politically correct ! Price seems fair enough to me, and you were open to offers. Can't ask for more than that. I'd jump on it if I didn't already have it. If you think of it, let us know how you make out on ebay with the set.

The music on this set is some of the best of Elvin's career I think, and a small treasure of gold in the lean Butler/UA era Blue Note era. I dig the session with Morgan and Coleman a lot also
