Hardbopjazz Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) Lauren Bacall has died. RIP. She was a favorite of mine. One of my all time favorite movies was Key Largo with Humphrey Bogart. http://variety.com/2014/film/news/lauren-bacall-star-of-hollywoods-golden-age-dies-at-89-1201281523/# You notice that deaths come in three, Robin Williams, now Lauren Bacall. jazzbo Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 Well, she had a full life. My new gal shares a birthdate with her, I've always remembered that ever since I first met my gal 35 years ago. Bacall was a very good actress! R.I.P. Quote
kinuta Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 Sad to hear that but it's to be expected at her age. She'll live on in her films. Quote
Larry Kart Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 Watched "To Have and Have Not" the night before last. A perfect movie. Slim and Steve. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 If I'd known she was still alive, I might have started taking Cialis, or some such. :-) Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 Sure outlived Bogart by a stretch. Quote
Hot Ptah Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 I love her performance in The Big Sleep, one of the greatest films ever in my opinion. Quote
jes1982 Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 With the sad news regarding Robin Williams, I totally missed this. Looked at her list of credits. Totally don't remember her cameo (?) in The Sopranos. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) Sad news. She got a pretty high profile over the years on TV over here, often being interviewed for her recollections of Bogart etc. Edited August 13, 2014 by sidewinder Quote
mikeweil Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 Her voice was something else - one to hear and ..... R.I.P. - I'll never forget that sound. Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) There cannot have been many female celebs who managed to age with such style and class the way she did. RIP Edited August 13, 2014 by Big Beat Steve Quote
king ubu Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 Sure outlived Bogart by a stretch. He was double her age when they met ... love the films they made together! She had a long life ... and had some great parts late in her career too (such as in Lars von Trier's "Dogville" - she was pretty darn great there, I found). Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 Her voice was something else - one to hear and ..... R.I.P. - I'll never forget that sound. Her speaking voice, yes! But the story (possibly apochryphal) is that a very young Andy Williams recorded the vocal tracks for Ms. Bacall... Anyone know for sure? Quote
duaneiac Posted August 13, 2014 Report Posted August 13, 2014 She is rightfully a screen legend. I saw her on stage in the musical Woman Of The Year. She wasn't exactly what one would call a singer, but she could put the songs over by sheer dint of personality. I like the old radio series, Bold Venture, she and Bogart did together. Not great drama by any means, but more of that wonderful interplay by the two stars. Quote

The answer apparently is “no.” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0037382/faq http://articles.latimes.com/2012/sep/26/entertainment/la-et-mn-andy-williams-movie-lauren-bacall-20120926 If we believe Williams’ account, he did dub her voice for “How Little We Know,” but her actual singing voice was used in the film because his dubbed version did not match her speaking voice closely enough. Not great drama by any means, but more of that wonderful interplay by the two stars. I've never heard them, but a quick search tells me that they're available on the net. Thanks for the tip! Quote
