Face of the Bass Posted July 21, 2014 Author Report Posted July 21, 2014 Update...I've added Brotzmann's Live in Berlin '71 from FMP. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 No reason not to own the Schoof or Hunting the Snake. Great stuff, and those Masotti photos in the Schlippenbach booklet are beautiful. Tales out of Time might be my favorite recent Brötzmann disc. Quote
colinmce Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Hunting The Snake is unreal. Definitely an essential disc. Clichés is also so, so wonderful. A top 5 Lacy record. I would also include Blinks in that list, but really, the former is really special and very accessible. Ditto the Braxton! I could go on and on! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 yeah, got all this stuff (the Lacys on LP) and no complaints here either. Quote
mjazzg Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 I'd be all over the Lacys if it weren't for the transatlantic postage. Someone's got to bite Quote
felser Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 I'd be all over the Lacys if it weren't for the transatlantic postage. Someone's got to bite I'd be all over the Lacy's if it weren't for Irene Aebi. Quote
Larry Kart Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 The Tristano-Konitz-Marsh set is worth it just for the liner notes. Quote
colinmce Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 It's true! Though I read them in your book. The set is on my long-term wish list. Felser, Abei isn't on Cliches, or hardly is. Quote

I would also include Blinks in that list, but really, the former is really special and very accessible. Ditto the Braxton! I could go on and on! Agree on all counts. The Braxton is one of his best (though he conducts and doesn't play on it)--some amazing big band music. Quote
