GA Russell Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 This report says that not only does no one buy CDs anymore, but the kids aren't buying mp3's like they used to. Instead, the kids prefer paying for the premium streaming services. http://www.showbiz411.com/2014/07/03/music-biz-alarm-all-albums-down-14-1st-six-months-2014-streaming-way-up-kids-dont-want-to-own-the-music Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 Kids... I wonder how old these kids are.I hit the upgrade button on Spotify, to find out how much the premium service is. Amazingly, I found it's 99KR a month. I assume that's Norwegian Krone and is £9.28 (GBP). That's a hell of a slice out of a kid's pocket money (it's a quarter of my own pocket money )Somehow, I doubt it's kids who are taking these decisions. It's people with jobs - maybe a few well heeled students. But they'll mostly be twenty-somethings. The days when teenagers controlled sales are almost certainly gone.MG Quote

MG My twenty-something daughter pays £9.99 a month for Spotify, as I do. I doubt if we've ever listened to the same track, though! Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 Think how much mum and dad pay for their phone contracts! Quote
David Ayers Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 I think the current or recent 5s contract bundles in a year of either Spotify or Sky Sport. And yes the cost of Spotify is much less than that of a phone contract. Quote

Downloads used to be 99 cents a track in the States and 99p here, i.e. about 50% more expensive. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 It's called capitalism. You charge what the market will pay. Quote
David Ayers Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 So under socialism would we charge less or more than the market will pay? Seems to be about round numbers in fact. Anyway tracks on iTunes tend to be £0.79. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 Well, under socialism the state would fix the price. Not saying that is good, bad or indifferent (suspect it would be highly inflexible). Just that in a capitalist state you get variations in price as you get variations of remuneration for the same labour. So it's hardly surprising that things cost different amounts in different places. Quote

Probably comparable? Quote
