rpklich Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 The Orlando Sentinel website posted that Eddie "Gua Gua" Rivera passed away on Saturday. He was one of the most prolific bassists in salsa and Latin Jazz. He had an extensive resume recording with everybody from Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Larry Harlow, Mongo etc. Odds are good if you have a few Latin Jazz records in your collection, Eddie Gua Gua is on one. He was with the best Latin Jazz band I ever heard live, Batacumbele. Quote
soulpope Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Priceless contributions on CLASSICS like Andy Harlow`s "Musica Brava", Markolino Diamond &Frankie Dante`s "Beethoven`s V", Luis "Perico" Ortiz Presenta A Santiago Cerron "Tumbando Puertas" and Willie Colon "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" to name a few......R.I.P Quote
mikeweil Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 He can be heard to good advantage on Mongo At Montreux - he really knew how to anchor the band, and had a great concept for electric bass guitar in a salsaband, with a big sound. R.I.P. Quote
Chazro Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Latin Jazz & Salsa have been my favorite genres for decades. I own so many recordings featuring the great Eddie 'Gua Gua' Rivera. Descansa En Paz Maestro. Quote
