David Ayers Posted June 22, 2014 Report Posted June 22, 2014 I am thinking myself here of repertoire that I have heard an artist perform which I think should and maybe could be issued. This is just for fun though so I'd also like to hear about repertoire you have heard performed but there is no recording, or maybe things that need doing again, or maybe things that you never heard in any context and would love to have access to. Please do tell us why! My starter is Leonidas Kavakos in Dutilleux, L'Arbre des songes, and Szymanowski 2. He has performed both of these in recent years, but his label has so far favored more established repertoire. I have hopes though. Oh and I need to say why, which is simply that I love Kavakos playing and it was a pleasure to hear him do these works. It is to be hoped that a major label contract will not straitjacket him. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted June 22, 2014 Report Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) I heard a performance of William Mathias' Organ Concerto at least two decades back at the Three Choirs Festival (think it was Gloucester that year). Would love to hear a recording of that. I'd also be curious to hear Rutland Boughton's Brito-Wagnerian Arthur cycle of operas that were performed at the Glastonbury Festival (not that one) in the early 20thC. Probably not something you'd need to hear more than once but I'm curious. I'm not sure the scores even survive. The last two of the 5 weren't even performed. Rooster_Ties Posted June 22, 2014 Report Posted June 22, 2014 There's a cello concerto by turn of the century New England American composer Arthur Foote (1853-1937) -- his only concerto -- which I believe has only been recorded once, and issued on an obscure LP that I've never found (though admittedly I haven't searched the world over for it). That's the first one that comes to mind. Quote
David Ayers Posted June 22, 2014 Author Report Posted June 22, 2014 The Foote is on YouTube. I'm listening to it now! Quote

I have seen him do it - the hope is for a commercial recording. In the meantime this is very welcome! Quote
