BeBop Posted May 11, 2014 Report Posted May 11, 2014 If you've spent time in China, you'll be able to relate to this. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/05/11/world/asia/china-says-goodbye-in-the-key-of-g-kenny-g.html?emc=edit_th_20140511&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=42272739&_r=0&referrer= I've no ill-will toward Kenny G, so let's not make it about "that". (See several earlier threads on my encounters with Mr. G.) Quote
CraigP Posted May 11, 2014 Report Posted May 11, 2014 I like this comment about Kenny G translated from a post on the Chinese version of Spotify: "This is the forefather of saxophone playing!! It surpasses the past and the future." Quote
xybert Posted May 12, 2014 Report Posted May 12, 2014 I must say that i found shopping for jazz CDs in China to be pretty disappointing (especially compared to Japan, which, you know, geographically not too far apart and all = i had high expectations! ) Quote

But, geographically speaking, it isn't that far to North Korea either. Not expecting to find many TOCJs there. Quote

I mean, him looking at squeeze boxes is a strong indication the regime loves jazz, isn't it? Quote

I guess it would be pretty obscure/in-jokey, but "Not expecting to find many TOCJs there" might just become my new euphemism for some place i don't want to go. It used to be "express elevator to hell, going down!" (Aliens reference). Gotta go visit Aunt Mabel? Damn, not expecting to find many TOCJs there! Quote
