Daniel A
Yes, the web archive is a great resource, but it doesn't really work for message boards. Here's a classic I remember: http://web.archive.org/web/20020318092812/http://www.bluenote.com/bulletinboard/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?f=19&t=000433&ubb=get_topic

IIRC it was Yoshio Okazaki in the Tape Vault with a Second Generation Master.
Leeway
It just reaffirms that the more things change, the more they remain the same OTOH, I note that Rudy Van Gelder was still THE MAN at that time.
paul secor
I believe that I joined the BN Board a little while after this. Reading some of the thread titles, I'm amazed that many of the same subjects are being discussed today. Many of the threads aren't archived, so I couldn't tell whether the same things are being said today.
king ubu
there's even a Barney love-fest (which surely I'd have joined if I'd been a member at that time, but I think I only signed up a few months before the big NoJo bash put an end to it ) here goes (includes jazzbo explaining "Moshi" ): http://web.archive.org/web/20020111080015/http://www.bluenote.com/bulletinboard/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000165 the trumpet + rhythm faves thread (hey ta, Rooster!) I seem to remember (well, maybe I remember it's revival over here, who knows): http://web.archive.org/web/20020111090908/http://www.bluenote.com/bulletinboard/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=001034 another one, including some early-ish guesswork on "Iron City": http://web.archive.org/web/20020126114604/http://www.bluenote.com/bulletinboard/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=001099
Kevin Bresnahan
Whenever I see these old archive pages and see the name Mnytime, I wonder if he really is dead or if he was just a really messed up dude. If it's the latter, is he here on the organissimo forums?
Indestructible!
Whenever I see these old archive pages and see the name Mnytime, I wonder if he really is dead or if he was just a really messed up dude. If it's the latter, is he here on the organissimo forums? Alright, I might get some grief for this, but... I'm pretty sure Mnytime still posts regularly on this board. I've met Mnytime in real life (several times, actually) and see some posting patterns of a member here that are "unique" to the man I know/knew as Mnytime. I'm not going to "out" this poster, as I'm not 100% sure he actually is Mnytime (more like only 98% sure), and it's really his call to make that announcement anyway. I'm pretty sure I have the right username... isn't Mnytime the guy whose "brother" came onto the Blue Note board to announce that he had died in a car crash? We all tried to get his real name and the "brother" kept avoiding the question. It was truly bizarre.

I was just thinking about Joe Christmas the other day--didn't he serve on a submarine? Quite a time-travel trip to see that board again... looks like I was member no. 620, joined January 2000, just in time for the new century. Finding the BNBB was exciting and revelatory. Dmitry
Joe Christmas was in the USN. I think shrugs was also. I've lost touch with Joe Christmas. Does anyone have his contact information? Other BNBB members have started here, and since gone elsewhere- names like AfricaBrass , Out2Lunch aka Tod Irzyk [a local Southern New England lad, who was a Blue Note vinyl collector. I wonder why he left here}, P.D. , Kulu Se Mama , Soul Stream , Claude ...
