Thanks to this thread I picked up this Hardman album, which is quite good - a standout (if not outstanding) hard bop session: good band, excellent originals (by Hardman, Tom McIntosh, Cal Massey), and Hardman in top form, sounding significantly less "stiff" to me. He's great on "Angel Eyes" and wonderfully fast on his feet on the brisk "Capers" and "It Ain't Happened Yet".

I think I saw Bill Hardman live in Cehoslovakia in the late 80´s if I´m right. And I remember I even got the opportunity to talk to him.

Somehow I mentioned the rare Blakey album "Plays Lerner & Lowe" from 1957 where I first had heard him. And even if Hardman had made so many records, he still remembered that album.

It´s possible I saw him before Cehoslovakia, maybe in Viena with Junior Cook......

I believe he had a "viennese" gig billed as Bill Hardman-Junior Cook 5tet in 1987, me believe taking place at "TU Wien"......memories......

Yes, now I remember it. It might have been around 1987. Is it possible that Bill Hardman-Junior Cook also had a booking at "Jazzland" ? .....memories.....yeah !

Not sure about "Jazzland", as I was not a frequent visitor there......retrospectively seen a pity.......

I went there quite often during the late 70´s even if I preferred other clubs. But I went there only if some US musician was in town.

By the way, you got a pn from me, soulpope !

I toured with the Bill Hardman/Junior Cook Quintet through Europe in the fall of 1986. We played Jazzland in Vienna October 7-9. The rest of the group was Walter Booker and Leroy Williams.

The concert I deem to remember in 1987 had Mickey Tucker on piano and Leroy Williams on drums, just the bassplayer is "escaping my memory"..........
