romualdo Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) Really wish that the Bill Dixon 2LP had come out, though apparently Bill canceled the project as the money wasn't right. They would have been recordings from Bill's tapes, including (IIRC) the concert from Four Days in December. Great band/s with Rashied Ali, Reggie Johnson, Robin Kenyatta, maybe Gary Porter on trombone (?)... I've heard bits and pieces of this stuff and it's heavy! A complete "Four Days In December" would make a great box set (Mosaic?) - probably too difficult to get all of the material together - wonder how much of it was recorded - I think Jerry Newman did some of the concerts Sun Ra, Paul Bley, Cecil Taylor, Bill Dixon, Jazz Composers Guild Orchestra, Archie Shepp Quartet with Charles Tolliver & Marion Brown, Free Form Improvisation Ensemble (Alan Silva, Burton Greene), New York Art Quartet Four NYA4 tracks were recently released on the Triple Point 5LP set plus other material has been released on the Fontana LPs (JCO) ps: found some more info in Campbell's "Earthly Recordings Of Sun Ra" - The complete series of concerts was recorded by The Jazz Composer's Guild who were planning to release a sampler on their own label & possibly all of the material but the Guild broke up & the releases never came to fruition but there were plans to release material on the Fontana Series. The Sun Ra material (in part) from Dec 31 was released on Saturn 165 with 5 extra titles added to the 2009 ESP CD "Sun Ra Featuring Pharaoh Sanders & Black Harold" Edited November 25, 2014 by romualdo Quote
